That's part of the point - recieveingthat support is part of what a person would need in a care package - it's what makes DLA so flexible, I'm worriedthat an assesment from SS would struggle to be so flexible - and the beurocracy needed to asses me, justify the costs I say I have than allocate the mone would surely cost morethan my DLA application process. I also fear having to justify every last penny - or not being considered disabled enough - the stress of filling DLA forms makes may people quite ill - I can foresee this being even worse.

If it isn't going to be like that hurrrah - but I'm not going to sit back and wait to see if i end up worse off - I'm going to make them justify the change and make surte it really is change that would better disabled people and not just a cost cutting measure that will leave 1000's in a very vunerable situation.

it really saddens me when people make judgements about the validity of another persons illness. to people who dont know me well, i look like i am fine, am faking illness whatever, except in the times when its a struggle to keep out of the mental hospital. i would love to go back to work, i really miss it and i feel enough like a scrounger as it is without it being implied that i am lazy and cba just because i lack the motivation, energy or enthusiams to do things like get changed/dressed, eat, or go out without someone telling and reminding me to do so. you dont knwo what is going on behind the scenes so to speak in your cousins house, you dont knwo what care and support she needs to cope and "appear" to eb merely lazy and faking an illness.

any of you who are fine and have no need for dla i would love to swap places with you, you live my (or anone else disabled or ill) life for a week and you would be crying like a baby at the boredom and lack of independence available. try it, take a weeks holida and stay in the house 24/7. or simpler still, you cannot go and buy a pint of milk without arranging for someone to accompany you to the shop. you cannot go out anywhere on your own, nope not even up the street to see your friend. games consoles/internet are a luxery, ok then you stay at home (apart form when you must be at work ill allow you that luxery of comapny and stimualtion form other adults and the joy of working) and see how you manage to entertain yourself without any forums, or people to talk to. no phone calls either, you cant afford to pay the extra for anything other than line rental which allows you to keep the phone so you can call for help in an emergency. you cant afford to bu magazines, books or anything like that, besides theya re a luxery so not allowed! no tv either as you cant afford a roof ariel, cant get any reception without one and cant afford the luxery of satelite or cable.

nwo how the heck do you like it? and thats only the start, i could go on for hours as i am sure could many other people.

If you're going to quote my posts, can you do it correctly, you snipped it and put everything all out of context. The appeal was referring to my mum and you made it look like it was about my cousin.

And believe me, I know my cousin is lazy, I know she plays the system and she admits to it! It's a known fact in our family that there is nothing wrong with her. So i'm not judging her illness because there isn't an illness to judge.

Everything you described in the first part of your post could be me, I too suffer from mental health issues and sometimes can't even make myself get out of bed in the morning. And I feel that everybody thinks i'm faking, because they can't see it. So I know what it feels like.

I also suffer from a really bad back, which somedays leaves me unable to walk. And I am severely short sighted, which makes my back worse, because I have such bad posture which is partly due to my eye sight (having to lean in close the laptop, lean down when washing up etc)

sorry hayley the part about appeal was a mistake i managed to not clip out, the only part i was trying to quote was the part about your cousin. have edited it to take that out. im sorry you knwo what it feels like to be thought of as a faker, you can have your opinion about ur cousin, but its hard to successfully get dla, and personally i think its hard to fake a mental illness sufficently to get gp/psychiatrist back up for dla claims. its that stigma and assumption tha even fellow sufferers make that upsets me. if fellow suferers think that we are lying then what hope to we have of normal ,for want of a better word, ever accepting that mental illness is not a figment of our imagination or laziness.

I've come to the conclusion disability benefits cannot be discussed in an objective manner as people become too defensive.

It's a bit like starting a breast versus bottle feeding thread!

It always leads to highly emotive and personal posts, including the obligatory 'you want to be in my shoes' line...

As I said, I'd hate to see people having to rely on the sort of care the elderly are getting from ss and the like - that should be lesson enough that this doesn't work - but at the same time, I can see the need for change of some kind.

Maybe, as alwaysonthego has sort of said, people will stand a better chance of getting what they want if they can take a step back and keep emotions out of their argument?

The above is the actual consultation paper

The above tells you how you can get involved in the consultation process

"There will be public leaflets and postcards containing three consultation questions distributed to GP waiting rooms, pharmacies and other public outlets. They can be sent back to DH, postage paid."
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

I opted to read the easy option. It is set out like a primary school reading book, with the pictures etc.Wonder how much this is all costing.

I read the easy option - actually i think it's fab - these issues are going to affect so many people with LD personally and I reckon most that wouldn't understand the main version would find that one understandable. I think it's great that the government is thinking so much about the groups it will actually effect - I'm impressed.

The main one isn't that hard to understand as I thought it would be.

Yes, I mentioned taxes, and I make no apology for doing so.

The fact that I pay taxes means that I have a right, in my own mind at least, to have an opinion on where they go. Those who dont pay taxes have less of a right to an opinion but, of course, can express as is there wish.

The Benefits system is very generous and it does need reviewed.

EXCUSE ME "those who dont pay taxes have less right to an opinion"??
    ARE YOU FOR REAL?????
I havent paid taxes for 11 years since i was forced to stop working due to disability, but like many many people in the same situation I paid taxes for year and years before that,in fact as a former top rate tax payer I probably paid more tax and n.i. than judgemental fools like you ever will.
I make no appology for what I say,the likes of you make my blood boil:mad::mad:

No, but that money is earned, I do have a vested interest in where my tax money goes and if it goes to buy someone an XBox 360 then I am entitled to say that I disagree with that and ask for it to be changed.

I`m sorry(or am I?)but thats total bilge,no one is interested in the slightest about your opinion,i`m wondering if you have the right to comment on my(or anyones)benefits, after all it appears to be a subject that doesnt affect you(yet).
