Reading some of the stuff I have, you have to have the owners permission.
HTHThe best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0 -
Just got a call from a company who doing the roof insulation with rockwool, I asked them if they could lay it between the joists rather than last time in my old house across them and laying them over boxes etc.
They said that they only lay them across the joists
Had a look on net several say its okay to lay between joists whilst others say between and across the joists
So no good if you want to make use of that loft space.0 -

What a load of rubbish. It's just idleness, they don't want to be bothered.
Of course you want it laid between not across the joists and over the top of whatever else is in the loft. When it's laid between the joists you can then put a floor down on top of the insulation and across the joists.

Well it looks like we have to do it ourselves as they wont budge and neither will warmfront. They said its DEFRA who tell them to do this, in the real world these people who make these decisions in there nice big houses and plenty of spaces dont have to use that small little space called the loft for insulation.
So I will end up buying it myself or getting a different product as we need that loft space, took us almost 2 years last time to lay the stuff due to the dust which effect OH they have asthma
This looks the job

Hi Poppycat
See if you can get a small local odd-job-man to do this for you. It's not that difficult but you need to be fairly agile (to avoid falling between the joists and through the ceiling!) and you need to wear a proper mask to do it. If DEFRA and Warmfront won't budge then it's well worth paying to get it done as you want it done.

Energy saving trust said as long as I increase the height of the joists up to 12 inches to be on the safe side, it shouldn't be an issue to lay the insulation between the joists. But Defra (just been on phone to them) said that, that was the requirement and that is the only way. The insulation company who work on warmfront wont budge so we have had to cancel the work.
Funny thing Defra said that the reason why we have to have it laid like that is for safety, what safety? its less safe and healthy for us to go up and do it ourselves because it will be a hazard as one of us has asthma and how can it be safe having it across the joists when you then cant walk on them as you cant see the joists any more or lay crawl boards let alone lay flooring down, its madness.0 -
Its in!!!!!:j :j
The heating was put in by Walkers Heating from Barnsley. They say that they cover the Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley area. There were three blokes, all were polite and friendly, and they were working from 7.50am until 7.30pm with one ten minute break. All the pipework is very neat and all the things we asked for were done. I am very pleased. I had been nervous as there are a lot of bodge artists out there but the workmanship was A1!:DThe best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0
