Hi purplecatlover, I can't answer most of your questions as to where the pipes will go etc, but you say you're 'scared to ask'. So what can they do to you - eat you alive??? I am a great believer in 'if you don't ask you don't get' and 'they can only say no'. All it takes is the time and cost of a local phone call!

    Best wishes

    Margaret

The letter that Eaga sent you said: 'contact your local authority'.

So pick up the phone, get through to your council offices/town hall/civic centre and explain what you want to know. Ask the person on the switchboard and you'll be put through to the right department. It will usually be called 'grants' or something like that.

They're not going to come down the phone and attack you!!!

  • rebob i heard you got a warm front grant, ive been reading the forums to find out more info on this warm front cos weve only just heard of it,did you have to pay anything towards the work or do they tell you what is needed and the grant pays for it

was your boiler from the warm front and did you get the grant or did you have to pay anything
  • I've just had my heating done and am really pleased with it so far.
The pipes are hidden behind plastic covers so aren't really noticable as you can paint the covers or paper over them. The immersion heater and water tank were removed so now I have a big cupboard to store things.
The crew who fitted the heating were all pleasant and well organised and very quick!
We did have to pay £800 on top of the grant and only got central heating but we did get a connection to the gas mains and there wasnt one before.

Don't be afraid to talk to them purplecatlover, they are really aproachable and the people in Newcastle (?) head office fall over themselves trying to help with your queries.

Sorry for the delay but I have just seen your post. Where abouts are you from? There are a few regional differences it seems and someone may be able to let you know the contractor for your area.

The grant increases if you do not have a gas supply. As there is a local supply the grant will cover an extra £700 for the supply to go in. Mine is being laid on Monday next week. The plumber says that the grant will cover the work but that because I have asked for a towel rail style radiator in the bathroom I may have to pay about £60 towards that. I told him that was fine.

The plumber has asked that we remove all the storage heaters before he comes and that we roll up the carpets etc upstairs.
