Paradisekidd - When we lived in our old house, we had majorly rotten windows(a hole thorugh to outside in DDs room ), mould and saturating damp and also a plant growing in the living room(through the wall), I went to the council and they checked over the house then sent a letter to our landlord detailing important work to be done, and a time scale to do it by. Im sure they may help you hurry things along. Worth a shot anyway. But Id still try not to worry so much bout the baby. My mum and dad had no heating with us 27 years ago and my mum said we were all fine, she just used to wrap us up well and when bathed ect she used to take us into the living room infront of the fire whilst dressing. Im sure you'll all be fine.

Thanks - you're right, everyone must have been brought up without central heating at one time! I guess I just get so worried when I am reading all about what a baby needs, and how its room temperature has to be a certain level etc. Its reassuring to know that you manage fine without any more than electric heaters. :A
  • How is everyone else getting on with their applications?

Luckily we can't have cavity wall insulation and already fitted some in the loft, so the surveyor has recommended only gas central heating - fingers crossed that the grant will cover it all!

I told the surveyor I am due in August, and his response was that it would definitely be in for then :-)

Just waiting for landlady's authorisation then warmfront will instruct a heating company to come round - I'll let yo
    u know how that goes!

Well my quote finally came in at £5600, the grant covers £4000, so we have to pay £1600. Our landlord wont pay it so looks like I carry on dreaming of central heating................one day!

Just for central heating? Seriously? I thought they only fitted 5 radiators on inside walls, how could you possibly be quoted £5700? Its disgusting, you could get your own 5 radiators fitted seperatley for £1700!

Tell me about it, the quote is for everything from scratch though, also the boiler has to go outside as no where in the kitchen. My brother is a builder though and he thought it would be done easy for under £4000. But once warm front have decided thats it, they dont care how cheap you can get it elsewhere, they said we could have some off if we did the ground work but it would still mean paying some and when its not your own house you think why should I! So as I said I'll go back to dreaming of having that lovely dial!
  • Is it Oil Central Heating then?

Yep, Im not sure if thats much more expensive than gas though.
  • So I have been transferred to Heating Efficency Systems to fit the central heating which are a company in Staffordshire - I'm in Derbyshire?!?!?

That aside, I contacted Warmfront and explained that due to levels of damp in the property (which has been deemed as unfit for habitation but no action was taken against the landlady because we agreed to do internal upgrades in return for permenant low rent ) there is no way a baby can be there. They told me to ring the company and tell them this - apparently they have 6 months from now to get it all in, and 6 weeks from 22nd feb to get an installer appointment made. I spoke to the girl this morning and she thinks we could have assessors in as early as next week and they will call on Monday. So, fingers crossed then ... seems the words unfit for habitation strikes fear into the hearts of these guys
    :T
