    Thankyou lovely ladies.

OH had his scan, he said they propped his leg up in a certain position which helped while he was scanned. Just have to wait for the results which is on 27th Jan.

Well, I was seething all day, however I decided that it wasn't going to shout and scream as it wouldn't do me any good or him.

So I went upstairs tonight when I got home from hospital and went straight into his room and stood in front of him, arms folded, lol. I said I was so livid and that if I started shouting I wouldn't stop. He looked so puzzled and said, "why, what have I don? - I said "you tell me!" - he kept looking puzzled and eventually I pulled out the bottom drawer and took the packet out. His face fell. I said, "well?!" - he started to say he was looking after them for someone else, so of course I said, "rubbish!" don't tell me any more lies, I can't stand liars!"

So eventually he admitted they were his. I asked him how long he'd had them and he said since September, said that was the only packet he'd ever bought. I asked him if anyone was making him buy them, asking him for money etc, making him take money out his bank, that sort of thing, but he said no. He said when he started college last September he was starting to feel good about himself and starting to get some confidence, but now he was very lonely and depressed. He said everyone else had gone into little groups and he was really lonely (not being able to make friends easily and being shy) then he was robbed of his mobile in town one lunchtime and ever since then, he's become really nervous of heading into town especially when it got to home time and he had to go to the bus station.

I explained to him that he would have to start practising making friends and by starting the conversation first, even just smiling at people as they pass by, and I suggested that perhaps he should do voluntary work and he might meet friends that way.

He's really friendly with a couple of girls from his old school and they're both on our MSNs. I spoke with one of them tonight and was telling her in confidence about what being worried about him and she said that her and her friends were all very fond of him, but they never knew where he was and sometimes if he was with them, he seemed to be quite awkward - again this is how he appears, but it's not how he really feels - he just needs someone else to chat first and to encourage him to join in.

So she knows how how he really is and she said he understands as her brother has autism and she was glad I mentioned it as it would help her to speak to him better now.

I can't stop worrying though, just hope he stops them and manages to make some friends.

Thanks for all your lovely replies,

    Sal

  • Thanks for the update Sally. Did your son just start college last September? I'm not very good at making friends and it took me a long time to make friends when I went to Uni. I was quite lonely and sad for the first few months at uni, but all I can say is things did get better and I did make friends eventually, although no life long friends sadly. I hope things improve with your son. Does he play an instrument? Or have any hobbies so he could join a group or take evening classes to meet like minded people? Not that I can talk - I'm still yet to make friends of my own since I moved house. :)
