Sorry to hear that HP. You have my sympathies. My Gran had it and it was hard work looking after her.

Is her GP and social services involved? We got loads of help from social services. Gran was forgetting to eat and take her tablets, so social services organised a carer to go first thing in the morning to make sure she'd had breakfast and her tablets, and then we had a rota with family members going at lunch time and evening to check on her. My Mam was classed as the main carer and social services organised temporary periods in care homes when my parents went on holidays. They also made sure we were claiming attendance allowance and other benefits Gran was entitled to.

Thanks Becles my current major problem is my mum has a partner who has just had a heart attack, gall bladder op and fluid in his lung. I set up the services for them both but 2 days after he got home from hospital he told them not to come back. He's an independant stubburn git.

Sorry to hear about your mum Hollypear. I have an aunt with dementia so I know how distressing it is.

    Hi,

    3) it's all an expense and you end up with a loss because you could not do the job without spending the money.. i think we all know which jobs these sound like.

this is similar for 2. If you had to get x, y & z and it came to more than
the reimbursement then the extra cost is still an expense.
however if they said spend upto 15 on anything you want, you then spend 19 the extra 4 is not going to count as a genuine expense as you chose to spend it and didn't need to to complete the job.

i did a clothes shop where I got 2 tops for 35. I was only getting 20 reimbursed and only needed to buy 1 top for the job. Therefore the 2nd top was not needed so I can't claim it as a genuine expense. I did claim the 20 though as that was the cost of 1 top (if bought individually).

Hope that gooes someway to helping.

Sometimes I think though it's perfectly reasonable to claim a bit more. Here are a couple of examples. You have to spend £10 (for argument's sake) and buy a minimum of 5 items. Well, it's not always easy or desirable to get it exactly at £10, so I think if you spend £10.29 for instance then that's fine to claim.

Also some jobs, if I feel I don't want to do them on my own, because it's not something I feel comfortable with (restaurant or cinema for example) then I claim for two people. Sorry, but to me, I'd be able to argue that I felt that that was a legitimate reason for the spend. HMRC aren't to know I'm big enough and ugly enough to feel confident doing either on my own.

Have to say that both are personal opinion and not based on any guidelines or laws I've read tho!

I'm not liking that new "abuse" icon - I've clicked on it twice already by mistake, with it being so near the "thanks" one!

    Scotsbob has probably nicked it.

    .

Certainly not. In fact they messed me about as well.

Sent me an email offering me three car jobs in Glasgow. I set a day aside, arranged for my carer to be on hand, cancelled the massage woman and then they emailed to say sorry they made a mistake.

Pretty shoddy way to deal with the workers I would say.

Did anyone get the hotel job that was on the alerts thread?? Sounded interesting! A bit out of my league but would love it if one the forum had nabbed it :)
They are for one person for one night only at short notice so not quite as good as it first appears. There's still a couple of them showing in the Liverpool area if anyone is interested.

I don't like it either as my mouse is playing up and has a tendency to double click by accident:eek:

I had a problem with my payment being returned to them, but when I called they were really good and sent me a cheque after they verified that I hadn't been paid.

On a separate problem they tried to pay me £30 more than they should have, but took that off when I called them. However my balance is still showing as a minus so I need to call them to get that changed.
