Used car I bought 6 days ago-i'm finding problems-what to do?
I bought a used car, daewoo kalos, 04 reg, 23,000 miles on clock. it passed it's MOT the day I collected it.
I have had it 4 days, and I have had big problems trying to get the bite on the clutch, other family members who have been driving 20+ years noticed the clutch wasn't right soon as they started driving, clutch is burning out n slipping, it's extremely hard to hold the bite at a junction, and i have been stallling loads! I never have this problem with other cars, it is driveable...... but I am a new driver and am struggling to get used to it.. a mechanic family friend reckons that the clutch is almost worn out.
Also, the hazard lights keep coming on by themselves! and the inside light doesn't work.
I realise that a used car will have ware and tear, but it's only an 04 reg, and only done 23,000 miles, surely this is something that should be sorted by the dealership as it is not expected ware and tear for a car with so few miles??
I got the car on finance from black horse, if that makes any difference.
I'm hoping I can just take this car back and get another one, as I have lost confidence in it...
Does anybody have any advice?
thanks

I stopped reading tis post when I readclutch is burning out n slipping, it's extremely hard to hold the bite at a junction
Clutches aint meant to hold the weight of a car! Which is why it'll be burning out.
As fo things wearing out - some last the life time of the car, some last less than halk! We replace clutches on cars that are three years old.
The fact it's low mileage will mean the whole car is more worn out than a higher mileage car.
You cant take the car back just cos you're clumsy with the clutch and the interior light doesn't work!
You say that you're a new driver. Sorry to be rude, but are you new to life too...?!
Take the car back to the garage and ask them to replace the duff bulb and ask about the hazzard lights. This miy be a feature of the car - Citroens for example put the hazzard lights on when you slam the brakes on.0 -
You new driver tut................
Dont make the cluthc bite on a junction.
Put the bliddy handbrake on and then when the lights change go off smoothly.
If you are not happy, give the dealer a chance to rectify this if the clutch is not working properly.
Look after your car, treat it with care and it will look after you for a long time.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

So what holds the car when you are going up a hill ? A clutch can hold the weight of a car plus all the passengers, luggage and the effects of gravity pulling the car down the hill.0 -
Ok firstly, there was no need to be so rude to me!
And in my lessons, I was taught to hold the car at a junction on the clutch and creep forward.
If you go up to a roundabout and have to stop to let 1 car past, but can go straight after, you stop and put hand break on? That takes loads of time doesn't it?
And I also had an uphill blind junction on my test and did not use the handbreak, as I used the biting point to stop me rolling back and creeped forward to make sure it was clear......and I passed my test.(Because that is the way they teach you to do it)Live Love Lose Learn :A0 -

If I have to stop for lights (or any length of time) I use my handbrake. If I am just stopping at a roundabout or stop-starting in traffic I use my foot brake.
If I was on a hill I would use my handbrake till the road was clear then I would get the biting point before letting the handbrake off.
Not saying here that my driving is perfect but my hubby doesn't complain so that's good enough for me:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

If you driving a car up a hill, you are not "riding the clutch" their is a difference between that & holding the car on the "clutch biting point"
PS: OP did you get anyone to check car over before you purchased it????ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -

I know that and you know that but the 1st reply said "Clutches aint meant to hold the weight of a car!" and was generally patronising to the new driver, maybe i was just being picky!!
As it happens I had trouble with the clutch on the test drive of my current car, kept stalling when I pulled away and didnt feel right. The seller told me it was a big old diesel and I would get used to it, like a fool I wanted to believe him as I really wanted the car!! About 6 weeks later the clutch gave up the ghost and if it hadn't been for the warranty I would have been £800 out of pocket, so maybe I have sympathy for the OP, hopefully the garage will be sympathetic and sort the problem out.0 -
I should add that maybe some of you needent bother reading posts or replying if you are going to reply so patrionisingly, and be no help whatsoever. it's fine having a point, but there is no need to make it in such a sarcy rude way. We all have things to learn, but that's not the way you should be 'helping' people.Live Love Lose Learn :A0

The clutch may be faulty but it isn't part of the MOT test so no joy there for you. Try asking the dealer to replace it. I don't hold out much hope though as clutches can seem fine one minute and be slipping the next.
Hazard warnings coming on. Again ask the supplier to investigate .
Interior light not working. Buy a bulb.
This is a car that should have cost you no more than £2k from a dealer and you get what you pay for. In this case an unpleasant little car.0
