  • Thankyou for the kind thoughts about Mum's bungalow - for the first time in years she seems motivated and excited by something.

Has anyone moved recently? I am trying to check that they are not being over charged for the removal costs - they have had one quote of £620 - they are moving from a 2 bed house to a 2 bed bungalow but there is very little garden stuff going just a small wooden bench as they will have a communal garden. It seems a bit pricey to me but they do live in an affluent area (South Buckinghamshire) so maybe it is right. I have asked them to get 2 more quotes just to be sure this is the going rate.

On the flying side - I have done some more in the kitchen but not enough to tick off another job - oh hum.

    :xmastree:

    Evening

Had been doing really well at the start of the week - thanks to everyone for the support.

Last night a very close friend died in a car accident. He was only 37 and had a 12 week old baby. Have spent part of today with his wife. Still feel like it's not real and that he's going to call or text and it's all been some horrible mistake. Just feel so useless - nothing I could say or do.

DH and I are just going around in a daze. Told the kids tonight and they are heartbroken. DD2 wants to put a picture of him on her wall and make a box with curry and beer pictures to remind her of her 'uncle'. When she went to bed she said goodnight to him. DD1 wants to write a book about him and DS wants to put pictures up too.

Hugs to all in need and for all poorlies.

Thank you. He was truly a special person. x
  • Oh Ginger - how sad! Hugs to you all. The fact that you stayed with his wife today was the best support you could give her.

Oh ginger that is terrible :( and I thought Miss A and W were way too young to lose Daddy at 3 and 6 years old. It's just such an awful shock, my heart goes out to his wife. It reminds me of 3 years ago so vividly.

Meant to say as well that I think it's great your kids want to do things to remember him by :) well done for telling them straight away and for being there for his wife. What you did means you were not useless but extremely useful to her, believe me. Also telling her you don't know what to say or do is ok too. There were people that either avoided us rather than say 'I don't know what to say' or gave those glib platitudes about time being a healer or I know how you feel, which in the early days (and even now for me) were some of the worst things I heard. How on earth could anyone know how I felt when even I did not know how I felt?!

Hey hun, we moved house a week ago today, Luckily FIL works for comunity transport so we ended up getting a van for 85quid, and using my daddy and DH's people carrier we mannaged to move everything in one go. HOWEVER, before we found out FIL could hire this van for us we had a few people round to do quotes. Our cheapest was £285, Max was £300....we've moved from a two bed to three bed, that included(on the removal mans list)

    queen size bed
    triple wardrobe
    double drobe
    two chest drawers
    bookcase
    cot bed
    crib
    two single beds
    unit
    toy chest
    sofas x2 (3seater)
    tele + misc
    big 50/50 fridge freezer
    cooker
    washin mach
    tumble dryer
    sofa bed
and about 60 odd boxes....(dont just dont!)

This was all in, basically if we packed they turned up, moved boxes furniture into van, let and unloaded. I dont know how much more expencive it is where your mum lives but this seems a very large ammount? We live in Staffordshireget so im not sure about cost's. Get at least 3/4 quotes first if you can, then play them off eachother,
'well, so/so offered to do it at this price, can you beat that?'
    that sort of thing.

    Hope this helps? x
  • Oh Ginger I am so terribly sorry to hear about your lose. I honestly don't know what to say other than well done for suporting wife and telling the children and being honest. If you feel upto it maybe in the future, maybe put together some sort of photo album/scrapbook of him, things you remember, good times you shared, for baby? Im sure she/he would be imensly apriciative of this as she/he grows.
Im so sorry for you lose.

AnW- Im sorry to hear about your lose too hun ((((((((((((((((((HUGE HUGS)))))))))))))))) for you both
