Relative to where? A 'good' climate is like beauty; in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I would rather have UK weather, with its variety, than something tediously reliable and boring. That goes for southern or northern Britain.
I can appreciate that people may want good weather for holidays, but all parts of the UK have so much more to offer than simple 'lolling about in the sun' activities.0 -

If it wasn't for the longer drive (as we have a dog it only only works driving not flying) I would then consider moving back North, but we will probably move from Surrey to Devon (easy access to the Spain ferry from Plymouth). Can't wait to be winter free.
You want to be winter free and talk of Plymouth........as far as weather goes Plymouth is the only "Northern" city in the south !0 -

Try reading my whole post before you answer (that way you might spot the reference to the ferry to Spain from Plymouth!).
Our plan is to live in Devon (probably Torquay area) from about April to October and in the South of Spain from November to early April (as previously stated using the car ferry to Spain from Plymouth). Unless you know something (if so please share it with us) that is currently unknown to the rest of the world I would say this would be 'winter free'.
I don't know much about Devon, but I do not think Plymouth would be for me, I reckon Devon is quite cheap compared to Surrey so we would want to live in a much better area than PlymouthChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Very true. I adore British wintertime and would hate to live somewhere with year-round sunshine. But summertime is an entirely different matter, in my opinion!0 -
One terrible day, coastal Northumberland will be swarmed upon by second homers and 'Escape to the Countriers" like Cornwall is now.
FGS - do not encourage them up here, it's better with just moaning northerners (let em believe that )I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -

I think you will find there are 'better areas' reasonably close to both Plymouth and Torquay and that the 'best' areas lie between the two.
However, what would I know, as I'm from 'up north?' North Devon, that is!;)0 -
I have a good friend near Torquay who is whinging she hasn't had a summer for three years, bar the odd couple of weeks.0
