    This is very interesting couponJ.

My discussions with Till Managers in local stores over the last few months and years have been a little different in some details. Maybe it differs in some areas?

In the local Metro, they told me (and other coupon-using friends, more than once) that they redeem their own newspaper and magazine coupons direct with the supplier each week. They said as far as they were aware, all small stores (Metros and Express stores) did the same, certainly in their area anyway.

For that reason, they would not allow newspaper and magazine mocs unless they stocked the title (they would go and check). One Till Supervisor was very strict and wouldn't allow ANY coupons for money off a magazine or newspaper unless you were buying the title. Same reason given 'we have to send these coupons to the supplier direct - so they are different than food coupons and we have to be much more careful'.

They were happy to take one of each of any other NSS coupons that scanned, and were not concerned about their store having to stock the item.

In a Superstore the Till Manager definitely knew which coupons had been unpaid by the coupon clearing house. They had not been rejected in the Cash Office, they had been sent back from Coupon Clearing (maybe at her or the Cash Office's request?). The main culprit 'dud' coupons were internet printed ones, hence that store stopped allowing them at all. The other problem ones were Somerfield and Sainsburys magazine coupons.

In the nearest Extra, they definitely know which coupons have been unpaid as well. I spoke to a Till Manager there in June about the Morrisons mocs not being accepted, and we had an interesting chat about coupons generally. He knew exactly how much the store had lost in dud coupons in the past month, and which ones were a problem (internet prints and Somerfield/Sainsburys rubbish, mainly), which he told me were returned to them by the Clearing House unpaid so they knew exactly which coupons caused a loss.

I tend to avoid Express stores as they have such a low stock range and they are more expensive. Also I found that they look at you like you have 3 heads if you hand over coupons as cash.

Maybe we'll never find a consensus of opinion from stores about what happens with their 'dud' coupons. Confusion over policies is par for the course with Tesco, you never get the same answer do you?:D
    Very interesting, CM.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Till Managers and Supervisors were making up or exagerating what actually happens with duds. We can only guess what's actually true.

Amazed that Somerfield and Sainsburys coupons are such a problem - both that people still manage to use them and that staff still accept them.

Amazes me too - it's all down to training which means it's all down to management :rotfl:. The SA's in my local store are really clued up - asking me are there any Sainsbury's or Tesco specific MOC's - I'd rather it was like that and then they hopefully will get less returned and continue the policy for as long as possible.

Cant see this happening as Farmfoods sell milk, cheese, yoghurts, biscuits, crisps etc not just frozen. Me thinks another SA not happy with coupons.

The sa is always happy to accept all my mocs, even if they don't scan.So i know she is'nt the problem, maybe the manager doesn,t want to lose profits and is stamping down on non-scans.It just seemed a strange excuse to use (ref frozen foods),will try again next week and see what happens.Maybe the manager can come and explain himself. The money i get off each week with farmfoods is a big chunk off my bill so i don,t want them to stop.

Similar thing has happened in my favourite store too, they have a list of 6 internet mocs they won't accept any more one is the cif one with 2 bottles on, one domestos, the tumbletots one and 3 others which I don't have so not sure what they are. They will accept all the other interet I have. They have been told by manager not to take these and have a little note on their till giving the codes of the ones not to accept. They have also stopped accepting farm foods and Lidl ones. They have a new policy if it does scan they don't accept. They can't put in non scan mocs as they no longer have a non scan button! As they are really good other than this I still do ok and always stick by the rules.

this is definately not right all tills have non scan buttons at tescos as it covers various things. and i used one yesterday..

Re Mars deliveries I can't see anywhere on the site that says one per person or email only. I think they are probably just inundated. I won a rugby ball for my nephew today and would expect it within 28 days. I think probably Gill377 has got them so busy delivering for her football team they are inundated and the rest of the country will have to wait!
