No wins in 2 years - what am I doing wrong?
Comments
-
I started entering on line - comps last September, and I was regularly receiving small wins through the post.
Up to 2 months ago I used to tick all the boxes and suffered the rubbish that inevitably came.
I found I was trawling through as many as 50 new emails a day due to my email addy being banded about to third parties etc, etc.
So I stopped ticking the boxes and haven't won a thing since.
Yes, maybe my luck has changed, but I feel that maybe promoters are looking at entries that have agreed to allow third party contact.
I certainly can't prove it, but as from now I am going back to ticking yes to everything and see what happens.
I'll keep you all posted.0 -
i enter about 20 comps a day MAX some days 5 or 6 somedays 1ish
I've won tonnes but think i have comp luck lol
Pretty much something everyday but only 1 major win but even the minor ones are worth it. You dont always have to enter comps for good stuff. I wrote to guiness and nivea and HQ hair, they sent bags choc full of samples, and guiness sent a big hat, poster and fridge notepads aswell as a pen.0 -

Personally, I am in the fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) position of having a job where I don't have to do much to do, which means I can easily spend several hours a day comping. I certainly wouldn't have the time for it otherwise. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I do them in the evenings and it doesn't take too long. I do it in a date order like most people - usually the ones ending the day after - I just sit and plough through them - probably 2-3 hours a day as I'm home with the baby anyway. It does take a few hours, but I do think you get back what you put in - I don't do comps that require too much effort or postals/text comps so I can't complain that others win more when they do those too. Thanks to all who post comps!TWBMI2010:Wii, Money/Vouchers, Baby/Toddler stuffA [STRIKE]B[/STRIKE] C D E F [STRIKE]G[/STRIKE] H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z2010 - Jul - Book, Garden Games0 -
I think the current entry-to-win ration is around 1500 entries to 1 win. But I've noticed a huge increase in the amount of compers on here recently (let alone Loquax etc) so it may be even higher (thanks Martin for the "comping for Cash" article
)
I have been incredibly lucky but I do enter about 100 competitions a day. I don't enter for CDs or DVDs - which are probably the most numerous prizes - and I don't enter for kids things or anything that I don't want. I DO enter for things that I know friends and family would appreciate as birthday/Xmas presents as we don't have much money and that is the only way they will get anything half-decent from us! :rotfl:
It is all about luck and persistence. For example, the current Pepsi comp is driving people crazy - but they are sticking at it like a dog with a bone. I had to enter almost 300 Pepsi ring pull codes to get a phone and it is demoralising AND disheartening to get losing emails days after day. You just have to plough on.
I still do the postal and text competitions even though I've never won with a postal and only won once with a text comp (£100 cash from Walkers - and that was a daily entry comp that I entered every day for a month).
It is unfortunate that some folk seem to win loads of big prizes whilst others win nothing at all - but it is just the way it is. If it is REALLY getting you down then it probably isn't for you, I'm afraid.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
I started comping in Feb but only doing around 10-20 comps per day winning absolutely zilch. I then up the ante (so to speak) in June and started doing around 30-40 comps per day, ticking yes to everything and hey presto won 4 prizes in July which I was very pleased with.
I only enter competitions that I want to win for either myself or my family. I don't enter competitions for baby stuff as I have teenagers at home but I do enter for DVDs, Xbox games etc. What I really am after is a break or a holiday as we are desperate to get away. Since being made redundant last year, I have had time on my hands but I still find doing 30-40 comps a day is enough for me. Anymore than that would take the enjoyment out of it for me.Thanks to all those who post competitions! Comping on and off since 2009

I've entered about 30- 40 a day, not including the ITV comps and daily comps, which I do every day as well, since January (over 7000 competitions). I've won some cellulite cream from the Glamour giveaway but nothing else. I only enter for things I want to win, including tickets and dvds if I want them, but I havent been lucky yet. I've also entered most of the caption comps and tie breakers and the more time consuming comps (like the ducks that had to be fed every few hours)and I enter quite a few postals. I tried for months to win a Galaxy book, a Mars ball or Cadburys chocolate and have now given up with those. I've entered the Strongbow comp every day and am sick to death of the 'hard luck' message I get every day at 6pm ish. The only thing I've had in the post apart from the cellulite cream is a Liptons tea bag and piles of holiday brochures. I'm also getting masses of emails because I don't tick the no contact boxes in case it affects my chances. I've thought about giving up several times but I can't help thinking if I keep going my luck must change at some point. Also, people on here are very kind. Someone gave me some tickets once for a film screening, and my daughter went and had a lovely time.0

Compers challenge 2024 wins!!!!.... Oct £60... £10 free spins, £50 palm, m&m pouch0 -
Another thing to remember is that you may have already won something.
Some of us have only just received some glamour wins last week and that ended in May. Yesterday I received a DVD in the post and when I checked the comp ended on 26th June!0 -
I agree with KateAB, Purplebutterfly and SueB in particular.
I've been entering comps for years, from when I was a little kid, the giveaways in Shout, Mizz and Smash Hits type magazines, through to now. I joined these forums last year and my wins started increasing as it was so helpful to find so many competitions already collated and sharing answers with eachother. Since losing my job and gaining a bit more focus, this year has been my best ever despite there being an increase in the amount of compers.
Just stick at it, make sure you're organised and up to date, thank other compers on these forums, and you have to be in it to win it. For proof that real people do win, just go to the IWIWIW forums...it continues to inspire me. We all have peaks and troughs of winning, so don't give up if, or rather when, it tails off for a bit. It picks up again!!
I also never enter comps for things I don't want or can't use; I'd rather spend my time on relevant competitions.0
