I am most defo not a newbie, and I say dont touch them with a barge pole.
Took them 3 months to complete a sale with no chain what so ever! The seller was even using the same solicitor but they kept telling us, we are waiting to hear back from the sellers solicitor!
They didnt take to kindly when I said well get up and walk over to their desk then as you are the same company.
Overall a bad experience.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0 -
Hi Virgin,
If I presume, you were both buying and selling, and contracts have not been exchanged, how on earth have PPL run up a bill of £2500.00?0 -
Hi Chesneyoctopus (hope I got it right), in answer to your queary about how such a charge was incurred, apart, that is from paying for a Deed of name change (necessary) and paying to register with Land Registry (unnecessary), there was an issue with a R of W which they said could only be overcome by obtaining Deeds of Release of Easements followed by another Deed of Grants of Easement, taking months and costing huge sums OR I must ask my neighbours to enter into an agreement-via solicitors-in which they stated that they were allowed use of said R of W. QUESTION!! Why would they choose to pay to say they were doing something they are now and always have been at liberty to do for FREE for at least 20 years? I asked an online solicitor for help and whilst it took 6weeks to get a reply it is the solution they gave which is now being implemented and will cost about £275. I really can't tell you what they did that racheted up their fee-as you see, I live up to my name-I'm just thankful that I didn't have to pay it.0

I've been following this thread very anxiously because I instructed them for my purchase. I thought I'll wait for everything to be done and dusted before adding something.
I'm a FTB, started our hunt towards end of May to complete by end of July. Vendors had no chain too. We had to complete by end of July because of an impending capital gains tax refund. Was pretty nervous about timelines, but I was pretty okay in the end having used PPL. Not the kind of firm I'll trust blindly, but the good thing was that everything was scanned and uploaded on their online portal so I knew exactly what was happening all the time. Whenever there was a delay, I would know that I need to follow them up.
My conveyancer was Fiona who generally seemed to respond to the queries within a day most of the times and seemed quite knowledgable too.
Regarding the nitty gritties of the contracts, etc., well I'm no expert but wherever there were issues, my conveyancer generally seemed to spot it and raise with with the vendor's solicitor. Rest only time will tell.

I suppose I must be grateful that neither I or my buyers are in a chain. We hope to complete on Friday, which will make it 19 weeks since this nightmare started-however, I'm really happy that your experience has been so much better than mine.0

How do you know it's the solicitors and not their clients changing their minds? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I am first time buyer. I was recommended by Your Move to go with PPL, which was a disaster battle for me.
I was assigned to a lady called Ravindeer, oh god, she always took ages to reply to my queries, not until I ring and ring to chase up the progress.
It took them more than 2 months to complete the completion, with no chain for both sides.
Still, it cost me about £2500 for the whole thing.
After all the hassle, I finally completed in the end of September, and I was told and assured by her that they will send me the land register and etc in a month. Until now, I received nothing.
Despite all the calls and emails asking what happen, I hear nothing.
Until I really fed up and ring continuously to chase up what is going wrong.
And now I was there was some issue with the previous overdue payment and what ever excuse they gave me.
I am still not quite sure what is really happen.
You probably gather I have just joined as member purely to advise people not to take them as solicitors.
They are not any cheaper than other high street solicitor which can actually see them in person.
Don't buy the story from the estate agency that they work with the solicitor closely and will get quite responses and all sort.
What happen is when your estate agency refer you to PPL, PPL will pay the estate agency a recommendation fees and the estate agency doesn't care after that.

I will definatley not be using these people purely for the fact that they feel the need to fake a reputation by aasking their employees to register a new account and leave a glowing review.
I have never seen so many 1 post wonders leaving reviews before!2010 Wins:

The last post was a '1 post' person posting something negative though!0 -
I can get through to their e-mail (unlike Countrywide who don't publicise their e-mail at all, and have on occasion told me they want stuff as a hard copy). So we get stuff going back and forth with PPL by e-mail - try doing that with some others.
But someone at PPL has just asked me for hard copies when they could have printed out the PDFs I sent them!RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0
