Sparkling water with may be a dash of a regular (i.e. not sugar free) cordial of some kind in it.
The various "diet" drinks contain aspartame which is worse for the liver than alchohol. I do have Diet Coke, but keep it down to 2 a week and no more than 1 a day.
If I know a pub visit is coming I make room for 180-200 calories worth of a pint of beer.

At last, 1lb off this morning. So 3lbs in all since I got back from hols 6 August.

So pleased to hear how well you are doing Adrian, gives me a boost too. The 4 pairs of jeans/trousers I bought last month for my holiday are now all loose. I shall carry on wearing them though to get some value out of them! And you can always put a belt round trousers that are too big - you cant do anything with ones that are too small.
  • I think it would too easy to skewer a bit of pizza or a piece of cake with one chopstick!
  • Did anyone see the fixing on the Tonight 'best diet in the world' programme rerun on ITV2 last night? They fixed the results by getting that Birds of a Feather has been to 'test' (ie, throw tantrums over) Japanese food. All she did was wail that fish was disgusting and seaweed was yuck. And as for the scene where she chewed and chewed and chewed a tiny scrap of sashimi round and round until she decided to pretend to vomit it back out into her plate - the woman is an animal! I wouldn't tolerate such attention seeking nonsense from a two year old, never mind an old woman.

Then, despite low carb consumption resulting in the greatest weight loss, they decided to change from finding the best diet (usually referring to weight loss in the outside world) to the healthiest lifestyle, thus ensuring that the mediterranean diet favoured by the latest government gurus 'won'. (remind me again how helpful a ton of white pasta is for someone trying to lose weight?)

To say that a diet high in vegetables and containing meat/fish and fruit (and, as I remember, generally alcohol free) is unhealthy seems ridiculous.

Oh well, just letting off steam.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I watched it too! I would say that the Japanese diet is the healthiest of all (evidence would back this up). Just because Linda Robson couldn't stick to it does not mean anything. If I could afford it, I would eat sushi every single day, I love the stuff. :D The Mediterranean diet would be second, I reckon. It is also v. tasty and sustainable for life.

I'm glad that they made the point about low carb being bad for your mood. I know several people who've done it, they all ended up miserable and lethargic. Definitely not a 'forever' diet. Maybe good for a kick-start but I wouldn't do it indefinitely.

IMHO it is best to eat healthy carbs i.e. FIBRE, fruit, veg, lean protein, good fats and a little of what you fancy - and cut out refined carbs, especially sugar. Do I always follow this advice? No! But I should. :o

I've been doing pretty badly the last few days, this month is not quite a write-off but I am going to have to make a superhuman effort in the next 12 days. No chocolate (one day at a time!), have healthy snacks handy (and eat them!), have some dinners separate from OH so I can cut calories at least a few days a week (he is into cooking dinners and doesn't skimp on cream etc when he's cooking!), more resistance work and lots and lots of herbal tea.

Anyone got any other tips? I need help...

Third WI of the month tomorrow and I think I`m doing OK, although yesterday was a real test, probably went over a bit on the cals.

Started August at 12st, down to 11-11 last Friday, getting closer to my target which I should achieve in the "September 7lb shed".

I must say to The Dragon that this 7 lb a month is a brilliant idea.
If you look at it for any longer a period it seems just too daunting a task.
The big incentive is obviously to end the month at LESS than you started and this encourages you to keep going, even if it`s only a lb or two.
Once your clothes start to feel looser and you need to wear a belt to keep your pants up,that`s the real buzz.

Tara747, I think the word snacks, even healthy ones, may point you in the right direction and of course "wanting" (to loose weight).
Perhaps when the pangs start,an apple or some other fruit and a glass of water may help and see if you can get into a regular "eating routine".
Looking at your graph above,at least the trend is down but October wont be long in coming!

I totally agree with you about the 7lb thing, The Dragon is a genius!!

Thanks for the tips alared, I have started off the morning with two boiled eggs and feel quite full. I'm going to try to eat more protein early in the day to stay full. Let's see how long I can go without eating again.

Good luck for your WI tomorrow, you are perfectly on track so far!

(remind me again how helpful a ton of white pasta is for someone trying to lose weight?)
A "ton" isn't going to help :rotfl:
    but....
A say 3oz serving of pasta ( I prefer wholemeal) with a main meal is not too many calories and satisfies hunger for a long period keeping you from needing to eat again so soon. So pasta and other simlar carbs like bread, rice and potatoes are a fantastic way to keep hunger at bay for longer without too many calories.
As those on low / no carb diets say, not enough carbs. leaves you too low on energy and too miserable so you will struggle to keep it up.
Since you don't need a diet but a permanent change in eating habits and a low carb. diet cannot be kept up for ever I think this approach to weight loss as bad unless a doctor or dietitian suggests it for someones special needs.

Another 4 oz down this morning (I do love my accurate digital scales WHEN they are going down).

I reckon I should end this month 4lb down but Im well pleased with that as it did include my holiday eating in the states.
