I just got an email to tell me that the Great London run 10k race on July 20 is now available to book. £25 is a bit steep, but some might be interested. The new travellodge at Southwark has family rooms at £29 a night over the weekend if you want to make a long weekend of it.

I posted in this thread some time ago about the Running Made Easy book and I have kept up to date with all the postings :D (it's nice to see the encouragement you can get on these boards).

My good lady wife started their program last week (I just thought she was just doing her own thing) and I've gone and lent the book to a friend :o.

Before I can get it back she obviously wants to start the 2nd week training properly, so if anyone is willing to post here the 2nd week training schedule from Running Made Easy (e.g. walk 1 min, run 1 min for 15 mins etc.) I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks very, very much if anyone can oblige...

Hi everyone, invested in a pair of running shoes today and tonight I start out on my quest for fitness and (hopefully) weightloss by running.

I used to run many years ago, did a marathon even.....and finished it but *ahem* that was 20 years ago.

So tonight I start and will hopefully get back into it again.:D

I don't suppose anyone has any magic cures for achilles tendonitis have they? I just wondered if there was anywhere he could get further advice/instruction from.. or if anyone had any experience.. very careful here NOT to request 'medical' advice.

hubby is due to do a half marathon next weekend and today he cannot manage 10 yards!!

He has too many sponsors to simply pull out.. and I can't do it in his place as I can't run 4 inches!! Any help would be much appreciated. he is off for new running shoes tomorrow.. to wear in all week lol.. break them in gently.. he is still going to the gym just unable to run.

and I won't let him take 4 ibuprofen and do it anyway..

If he is having problems running at all just a week before then really it would be a huge risk to try and run over 13 miles with it. The charities may lose out but if long term damage is done then there will be no further opportunies to raise cash for the future and all parties will suffer.
    Has it got any better?

    Hello there

I have popped in, having been pointed in your direction, I a a long standing member on the Lose Weight thread, having lost a over 12 1/2stone. I do a fair bit of gym work around 4 times a week and I also play rugby for my sins, was a prop! Not sure what position the new season will put me :)

Typical Gym session would include a 2mile treadmill (around 17-18min) jog as well as cross trainer and cycle work. Though I have developed a bad habit of holding onto the bar when jogging.

Anyways My partner a complete non runner, has done the raceforlife recently and she has signed us both up to Jog/Walk/Run a 10K for cancer research https://www.run10k.org.

This week I ventured outside for the first time, 1.5mile lap jog/walk in 14.30 and increased the treadmill to 3miles (26min30) managed 15min before holding on :)

So to increase my chances of completing the 10k do I slow down? Obviously I recognise the need to get outside abit more, Thats a challenge for me to deal with the looks and stares.

Thanks all help gratfully accepted :D

suggs when i was training for the RFL events i found it was mch easier to train outside, period. i could run faster, further etc on the road than i ever could do on a treadmill. experiment and see what works for you. you might love the painful pleasure that comes with running full pelt, or you may prefer the proud glow of a trainee runner that runs the whole thing nonstop, albeit slowly. try it and see.

I'm a 33 year old female who's battled Chronic Fatigue syndrome for the last 5 years. Now I'm feeling a bit stronger I can't help but feel it would help if I got fitter on myself (not to mention try and loose some of the excess weight I put on when I was ill) so that's why I'm here. I'm off to the gym now for my first attempt at running. Much as I'd love to run outside I really don't have the confidence to go on my own and can't find anyone willing to come, so it looks like it's the treadmill at the gym for meme. Anyone any ideas about how to find a running buddy as I'm sure it would help with the motivation if nothing else.

I'll let you know how I get on. My fitness levels are pretty poor, although I have been swimming a couple of times a week for the last 3 weeks to try and ease me back into exercise slowly. I'm back off to Vancouver in May and have this stupid idea that I'd like to be able to run the 10k Sea Wall by then. Probably a long shot, but if I could run more than half of it I'd be happy.
