Helloooooooooooo is nobody running anymore?? :(

Im getting much better..can run for about 4 mins at a time now and I stop and then brisk walk cos I want to and don't wanna over do it rather than cos I can't breathe and feel like Im gonna keel over lol

My knees hurt abit though, even when im not out on a run. I must land really heavy on my poor legs and my knees soak up all the impact. Ive bought some elastic knee supports so hope they help cos I don't wanna have to give it up not now im getting somewhere!!

Anyone have any advice for me?

    Helen x

hey helen! glad to see you're still at it :D

with regards to knee pain.. i have arthritis so have to be careful not to overdo things  i make sure i have a good warm up and warm down stretch, and take cod liver oil capsules to help my joints.

if it persists, contact a running shop and get them to look at you run. it could be that your trainers are unsiutable. if they cant help, try your docs :)

I don't know how quick you are running but try and keep it going for as long as possible and forget about walking. It may sound harsh but if you can manage to run for a significant length of time, say 20 or 30 minutes you will feel really good afterwards(perhaps not as soon as you have finished though). I bet you could do it too. All you need to do is run very slowly so that you are going barely quicker than walking pace. Running like this is much easier than most people think.

Ive just got my from another Run/jog. my usual 2miles, took me 20minutes. I did not stop, I felt alot fitter and the pains only towards the end of my Running. Maybe I am strengthening and retraining the damaged muscles or something.

Next Run on Sunday. If that goes ok will step up the Programme.

2 years ago i decided i wanted to start to run as i was 12.5 stone and only 5ft 3. i am now 31 approaching 32. i could not run for 5 minutes without feeling like my head and lungs were going to explode.

this site is great. they have loads of different training schedules for beginners and loads of advice on shoes, clothes, nutrition, etc.

since i started i have lost 1 stone and completed the great north run twice and last october i completed my first marathon in a time of 5 1/2 hours.

Hi,can any of you please give me some much needed advice ?

I'm running the race for life in 2 weeks and have been following the couch to 5k podcast for the last 10 weeks,at the begining I struggled to run for 60 seconds ( I was very unfit) the only problem I'm stuck on day 2 of week five and cannot manage to get past the 8 mins of running stage, I can do the first 8mins then walk for 5 , but then I can only manage another 5or 6 mins of running before I'm ready to explode !

Is there any hope for me ? I really, really want to be able to run the full 5k, is this possible with only 2 weeks to go ?

    Cheers

try not too run too fast. if you slow down your pace in your first interval of 8 minutes you will recover quicker. remember to try and keep a steady comfortable pace. if you are unable to talk and run at the same time it is an indication that you are trying to go too fast. remember the important thing is that you enjoy it and finish.

ive found that it is easier for me to increase the distance that i cover using the walk/run programme than it is to build up the amount of time i run for. those training plans are very generic, and i dont think we should be too downhearted if we dont fit the bill exactly. whats important is that we keep going out there, and keep at it.

we have two main training grounds, and the one has become a real benchmark for our progress. we start from the sports institute in cardiff and run along the taff trail to the weir, over the bridge up to tescos, across the footbridge, back down into the park and all the way back to sports institute. our first run, we made it to the bridge and walked 90% of the rest :o now, we've lengthened our track somewhat and i'd say we run about 70% of it, and briskly walk the remaining 30%.

its really heartening to watch the balance between the ratios change, and running the same track every thursday really lets us measure our progress. using the run/walk method we're covering around 7km - not bad considering we only took up this get ifit business in january, and have only been running outside for a few weeks.

Hi, just a quick word of thanks to everybody who has posted on this thread, in just 12 weeks,I've gone from somebody who hasn't even run for a bus in 20 years to being able to complete the 5k race for life in 36 Min's !!!!!(running every step of the way)

If I can do it anybody can, I'm a 39 year old mum of 2, who at the beginning struggled to run for 1 min, but with the advise posted here and the couch to 5 k running podcast ( cannot recommend it enough) I managed to do it, although at times I honestly thought I wasn't making any progress, and would never be able to run the whole distance, but I did, and you know what, I'm so blooming proud of myself !!!!
