It seems that a lot of people are incorporating running with walking and this can work but if not then why not try running really slowly and see how long you last. Maybe a couple of miles in 20 to 22 minutes just to get you running for a decent length of time. There is a big difference in walking and running and you'll be fitter if you can run the whole distance(even if it is a leisurely jog). I also agree that a lot of it is mental. If you are not used to discomfort then if you do get breathless or the lactic acid builds up in your legs you think that you are about to die when in fact a few months down the line you will be able to ignore it.

I havent managed to go running for the past two nights as its been far too hot. I was going to go tonight but my knee is playing up and is too painful for me to go tonight.

Guess I will have to be tough with myself and go tommorrow. I have been doing my chair excersie bike thingy though. Got it from avon for £7 using a code

Day one is done! Felt fine and enjoyed the route as it's in the woods and on a dirt path.

Have to admit i was having to push myself by the third minute of running which is a bit embarrassing as I'm only 23 and really ought not to be this unhealthy, but i'm really glad i've given it a go.

Thanks for the encouraging words on this thread all. Fingers crossed that i'll be able to keep it up for as long as some of you have.

Jenittels.. I'm only 24.. so don't worry about about age!! I used to be abit of a health freak...then i hit teenage years and I'm reparing the damage now!!!

My brother is considering training for the London Marathon next year... I might train with him if he does as I think he will push me alot more, I find it very hard to motivate my current running partner and she's always making excuses etc...Iv'e told her to not think about running until your putting your trainers on!!!

Well done JenIttels - getting out the door can sometimes be the hardest part for me; once I get going I am ok.

I have decided I do better in the harsher weather - we did 35 minutes today with mostly 2 minutes running and even a few 3 minutes. Hurray!

    Good luck today.

You could look at the Race for Life website - they give you a training programme for the 5km run which builds up over 6 weeks - I'm about to give it a try myself!

Go Loopy !! The more the better. I love the Zest plan and the Running Made Easy book is great.

And thanks Caz...I have seen that plan...I think a few others are doing that one. I can't believe I am actually looking forward to going out running on a regular basis. Now if I can just crack the chocolate I will be laughing!

Second run today. Much harder than first for some reason and forgot to stretch when i got back so i'm a bit achy now :(

I am still looking forward to my next run - i'm sure it'll get easier eventually.

Re: the zest plan (the one that was posted here). Why does it say, for example
    Week one:
    Mon- (Run 60 sec, walk 3 minutes) x 3- total 16 mins

It doesn't add up. A total of 3 mins running and 9 mins walking adds up to a total of 12 mins not 16. Is it including 4 mins of warm-up walking?

Cheers all. How's it all going in the higher weeks now? Hurting more or less?
