Also have seen an ad for a local ford dealership offering a 1.3i 16v for £5495 http://www.gkford.co.uk/newcars_ford.htm is this a better deal?
thanks

Yes they only made them for a couple of years without power steering, has been standard for ages.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Still a ford though.
Might want to buy a tin of rust treatment in a few months time...
(ok it's opinionated but seriously Fords are the only new cars I've seen rust within 3 years!).0 -

Thanks a lot, that has really cheered me up - I have only had my Ka for a year and rather hoped it would last me for at least ten!! My last Fiesta did manage to last for eleven years, even though it did have some rust by then. Still see plenty of older Ka's on the road so maybe I'll be lucky.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
jef9999 - Shame the tyres are £93 each. Cant money save on them...

Sister in laws x reg is riddled with rust and the offside sill has gone through so will be a mot failure no doubt.
I have always regarded fords to be poorly built since the old escorts and fiesta's, still find it hard to see why they are so popular.
My wifes w reg micra though is still mint with no rust at all as nissan seemed to sort thier cars out eventually. And has someone else mentioned you do not really see modern cars rotting like they used to.
Just keep em clean during the winter months and treat scratches and chips asap and all should be fine.0 -

Well, my mum has had a KA since new back in 99, yes the sills rusted but that was repaired very well by the dealer under warranty. Car had always been serviced by the same dealer, that helped.
Now the car is dying (steering, electrics, injection/carburetor) after 160k TROUBLE FREE miles. Pretty good value overall I think.
They just went for a 52 reg Rover 75 Estate diesel for about £5k.0 -

The resale value of the car in 3yrs will be worse than a citroen saxo. If you plan to keep the car in the family then its a good idea to buy it, but if you want to p/x the car against a real car in 2years time, expect a shock on the trade in value on the car.
Find these entry level cars come very basic hence why they are cheap. A better buy would be a suzuki swift etc which come with more goodies for them long days sitting in traffic.
I drive a Clio 182, its ok..has its issues but i know when i come to p/x the car next year, ill be looking at £7k trade in against something. Currently owe £4800 on the car with its market value of about £9200 now.
The KA is cheap to insure, but you have to remember its a small car, built for round town driving. Its not a big Audi A4 TDI for comfort, its something for running the shops, short runs to work and back. Prob dont put someone in the back as they will have very little leg room.
Before i bought the clio, i wanted a Sports KA, but i woke up and smelt the coffee. The 1.6 was rather slow for a mans car.
I get 42mpg out the 182 if i drive it normal below 3,000rpm, if i go over that im looking average about 30mpg but a very very big smile and lots of cars overtaken.
Shame the tyres are £93 each. Cant money save on them...
Damn Michelin Pilot Exalto's PE02's 205/46/16 - Kwik fit price £136, i need 2. Shame.
I disagree strongly with this post. Depreciation or not, i'd NEVER buy (or even be given for free) a Citroen or a renault, they are a complete waste of time. completely unreliable, rust buckets. Unless you can afford the likes of a Honda, or maybe Toyota you'd be much better off with a ford.....0 -

The Ka and Sport/StreetKa does not have a 16v engine, they use the 8v SOHC 'Duratec' in 1.3 and 1.6 litre form. Ford are yet to catch up with the rest of the world in terms of supermini refinement.0
