  • I bought a brand new Ka from a Ford dealer last June for £4999 - managed to get my Nectar points, as well as 12 months tax and 12 months RAC cover!! Not bad - only extra was my insurance.

Did have one problem with a faulty bulb on the dash board but Ford came and picked the car up from my house in the morning and dropped it back in the early evening of the same day - free of charge!!

I have been very pleased with both Ford and my car - would reccommend to anyone

Thats decent service. If only all dealers were as good.
  • It may be cheap but it isnt very safe in an accident scoring 3 out of 5 stars in the NCAP crash tests, what do you value most? a £2k saving or your health. Remember its the other nutters on the road you have to worry about

you can also search a particular cars value then look at the safety on that particular car

example for the car I just bought - 30 month old renault clio

We bought two for £5295 each in 2002 on the road with metalic paint. Absolutely superb car for the money. At certain times of the year this car regularly sells at around this price. We still have one of them and its going really well and cheap to service. The remainder of the year it is around £6000. Yes it is the basic model but there is nothing extra to go wrong. Its a fantastic handling car, fun to drive and very capable of cruising above the speed limit on motorways. I guess it really depends how many of you are in the car on a REGULAR basis snd whether you need four doors. The majority of my journeys I'm the only one in my car. Even on a run to the seaside with elderly parents they informed me that they were very comfortable.

I only sold mine because it does not come as an automatic. The new duratec engine is really good and I was averaging 43 - 45 mpg.

Even if it depreciated 100% in three years it would still depreciate less than my replacement car. I worked out as a guestimate that if I put £67 a month into an account each month it would well and truly cover the depreciation of the Ka and I was right. With my new car I'm putting away £200 each month for depreciation and its regarded as a low depreciating car!

    Highly recommended

This certainly sounds an exceptional deal!

I've been on a test drive with my local Ford dealer and am happy with the KA. The salesman did raise a few points though that I hope someone may be able to answer:-

If I purchase the Ka from Autobytel, is it a standard 3-year warranty or, as the salesman said, the possibility of only one year?

    &

Where does the vehicle come from in terms of where it is just now, i.e will it be imported?

    & (finally!)

What's the lead time on delivery as well as the delivery charges?

I'm sorry if I'm bombarding the thread with questions. I'm awaiting a call back from Autobytel, but thought it would be good for all the readers of this thread to perhaps consider the answers to the above questions.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Some of those questions are answered on their website I think.

I can remember in the FAQ section that the cars are from the UK, none of them are imported

Actually they are all imported. They are all built at the Valencia plant in Spain. It doesn't matter which country the dealer is based in because all RHD Ka's are built to UK spec.

Where do the cars come from?
All our cars are UK sourced from our network of accredited UK suppliers saving you the legwork of traipsing around several dealers. We use our buying power to negotiate large discounts on new cars, which we then pass on to you.

    Why don't Autobytel offer imports?
We looked long and hard at parallel imports and decided that there were several reasons why we shouldn't offer them to our customers. Firstly, we knew that dealers will offer much lower prices for imported cars when you come to trade them in. Secondly, we have found that many of our most requested cars would take over six months to be delivered. We feel that this would be unacceptable for our customers. Finally, we believe that we can source original UK cars at competitive prices without any of the delay or uncertainty that mars a parallel import.

A RHD Ka sourced from a Belgian, French, Dutch dealer will be identical to one sourced in the UK. I'm not making any comment on the prices, just the fact that all RHD Ka's sold in Europe are built to the same UK spec.

I take your point about delivery times. Ours took several months when ordered from a Belgian dealer but the savings were huge and this was at a time six years ago before the plethora of import brokers had jumped on the bandwagon. I have to say that the increase in personal imports at that time was a major factor in the major UK concessionaires reducing their prices as they saw a lot of their business heading towards Europe.
