You wont get any extras on that price, ford dealers will be selling this at near cost price. Don't expect to walk in and negotiate a discount, use your ford employee booklet or anything as if you don't buy a ka, someone else will.
My girlfriend is pleased with her, despite not being my cup of tea they are excellent cars for the price including insurance, tax, petrol etc.0 -
Thanks Katie,
I'm looking for a new Ka and even if I have to travel to the mainland to collect, it looks like it could be a good deal.

I bought a Ka for my wife back in 2000. It was brand new and I imported it from Belgium saving about £3k on the UK price. Its a nice car to drive even allowing for the 1.3 pushrod engine which traces its roots back to 1959 when it was fitted to the Ford Anglia (click here for engine info)
Its great around town and my wife really liked it but some of them are poorly built with respect to the paint finish and anti corrosion properties. Ours had to go back twice to have paintwork repaired. The bottom of both doors (the bit on the inside that you have to lie in the ground to see) were just finished in grey primer with no top coat. After two and a half years it developed rust on both sills and my local Ford dealer said that it wasn't covered under the anti corrosion warranty. We sold it soon after because of the rust. Its totally unforgivable for a modern car to develop rust after such a short time.
I'm not knocking Fords. We still have three of them in the family. I've had my Focus from new and its now seven years old. Its a great car but the Ka is based on the old Fiesta and its a generation away from excellent Focus/Mondeo generation. Having said all that, getting a new Ka for under £5k isn't too bad and you may be lucky with the rust.0 -
DazzaMc wrote:So do ford offer a pricematch? You show them the offer online and they match it?
Do they offer any free extras? Ie , free insurance?
And how much interest do they charge for finance?
Was buying cash so dont know about finance - no free insurance, but six months tax and free AA cover with home start for one year. The ford garage wouldnt match the price - their reaction was "Oh God!" so I bought through a telesales/internet site.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Its that time of year i think where dealers have to make there figures to get the large kickbacks from the producers so they are probably selling at a loss, thats why you see places seiiling at cost +£1 sometimes0

I got a price from https://www.drivethedeal.com for a Fiesta and then went to a local ford main dealer who couldn`t come within £450 of the online price.
Of course I had to listen to the old chestnut "I wouldn`t buy a car off the internet,blah,blah,blah"0 -
Thanks for the post,
Looking into this now as we are thinking about getting a replacement for our 97 Ka (100,000 miles and still going well, touch wood). At under £5,000 it makes sense to buy new rather then the s/h ex demo that we where looking at.Poppy9 wrote:If I remember rightly it was on the honestjohn forum. A ford employee said something about the 1.3 engine being discontinued as it had already been pensioned off by Ford. He also said you should ask ford to fit a larger reservoir for something, which they will do free of charge, as the standard fit one is too small. Trouble is I can't remember what the reservoir was for. I'll ask OH when he's home from work.
Your thinking about the PAS (power assisted steering) reservoir. Apparently some Ka's with power steering loose a lot of fluid in the PAS system as the stock reservoir is too small."John Willis is a toaster that talks! - It knows your name.".0 -

I agree.
The engine is ancient and not particularly useful at anything. There is a serious lack of power, not much economy considering how light and underpowered it is, and its so noisey (sounds like a diesel). Additionally, it won't last as long as more modern engines (but neither will the car!). My friend's mother has one, and hers has literally crumbled away. My friend's girlfriend has one, and he had to try and repair a headlight the other day, but apparently everything just snapped and fell to pieces, so had to goto the dealer.
Ford made a giant leap forward with their Zetec engine, and then another with a well designed, well built car with the Focus.
Fords make for great used buys, since the larger models depreciate so much due to the fleet sales. Mondeos are dirt cheap around a year old, a year old, mk1 Focus (the better one in my opinion) can be had for peanuts. However, as new buys I would look to japanese manufacturers.
The Ka is not my car of choice, but for £5k, its still a bargain. Considering they are so cheap in the first place, you could sell this on in a years time (or just before the tax runs out) for say £4.8k, and there you have it, practically a years free motoring. Cheaper than running a banger and you have the advantage of a new cars dependability (hopefully).
If anyone is interested in a small family car, ie Focus sized, but doesn't want ridiculous residuals and a Ford dealer network, read on:
The current Toyota Corolla is due to be replaced next year, so Toyota are phasing the current model out with a traditional special edtion, the Colour Collection. Last years colour collection was a T3 (air con, elec front windows, alloys) but with body stylng add-ons and free silver metallic paint, but this years comes with T-Spirit features (climate control, elec front + rear windows, better alloys) + styling + a choice of metallics, including a nice black. I mention this because last year, we bought a 1.6 5 door Colour Collection (fantastic, btw) from the dealer for £11995, which is damn cheap for the car your getting. The new one can be had for £12,100, which is an absolute bargain considering the extras they now include. You are also likely to have some leeway with that price since its being phased out! Compare that to an equiv. Focus!!0 -
