LOL, OK so it is not just me then. I just think it is laziness and I have to spend time correcting it because I do not want the Post Office to think am the lazy twonk who can't be bothered writing the address out properly.

I am relived it is not just me though, I've had 24 to do this morning and just one was written in the correct format. I have no idea why people write it out on my website properly (and there is no postcode look up) yet not for eBay and Paypal.

Do not even get me started on text speak, I understand it is supposed to make writing quicker and for shorthand, yes I am sure it is fine, but not for everything writing.

I smacks of a low IQ and of laziness.

It's certainly lazy, but I'd dispute it has anything to do with IQ.

People just get bored with providing the same information over and over again and just get it done as quickly as they can.

Personally, I have a pretty high type speed whether I use capitals or not, but a lot of people will find it takes longer to keep having to find the shift key...doesn't mean to say they're stupid.

A postcode lookup is definitely the way forward, though - I look down on any site that expects me to enter my address manually - smacks of cheapness and laziness :)

blue_monkey it is the same on Amazon as well and as they sort of expect you to just print out packing slips complete with address label it is a blooming nuisance to correct. You either have to print out the packing slip and throw away the uncorrected address plus cut and paste the address into word and correct it and print that out seperately, or use the poorly written address. As I try to be a little bit green (and save my printing ink) I now just send it as it is, complete with all lower case.

I rarely use paypal postage but that prints it as well exactly as it comes and people must surely wonder why their items all arrive looking so unprofessional.

Why would you waste your time correcting the address in the first place?

It may bug some people, but does it really matter that much?

I could see the point if the postcode looked wrong as in an earlier comment, but for the majority the letter will still get to it's destination no matter if the address has capitals or not.

Just seems a total waste of time to me, especially if you are a big ebayer and are going to sit and correct 23 addresses before posting them.

I correct everyone before printing as I don't wish to look like an illiterate mong when I go the the PO.

By suggestion I was referring to your statement that we should "refund their money and refuse to sell to them".

I still think that it is an odd suggestion to suggest a course of action that will almost certainly result in a neg and non performing seller complaint.

Okay well I was being slightly sarcastic when I suggested refunding the money. But to be honest if a seller complained to me about not using captials I would tell them where to stick their item and it wouldn't be in the post box.

The point of my post and sorry I didn't make it clear was that you should be grateful for the successful sale. Its the same as these people who work in Primark/McDonalds and look down on the people that use their shop. If you don't like the people who shop there then work somewhere else.

Personally unless your using specialised invoices with peel off labels I don't see the point of printing out addresses. As by the time you have folded them the right way so the address shows and then either got them in documents enclosed envelopes or stuck them to envelopes you might as well write out the envelope. Also I think its a nicer touch writing out the address and any obvious mistakes the seller has made in their address usually are noted. Of course you have to make sure you write it so it doesn't rub off and so the postman can read it but its no great hardship.

Personally I don't give a toss what the postie thinks. As long as the postcode is fine, and spaced etc, then it doesn't really matter. Ebay culture tends towards all lowercase- hence why usernames and the actual site logo use it. (although in my browser tab it is still eBay)

(By the way, am I the only one who finds it funny that in a pedantry thread, there is a typo in the title? Sorry OP, not having a go, just noticed and it tickled me :D)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Hi, this irritates me too, i found the solution. Are you using Word 2007 on Vista? If so highlight the address, then click the Aa button next to the font color settings and choose capitalize each word. Or go here for picture diagrams ;)

This is why you should never ever moan about spelling or grammar on forums as your bound to make a mistake.
