Just had a quick look on the East Coast website and that journey can be done for £44.20 (2x £22.10 Advance singles with YP Railcard)

What would be the cheapest tickets for travel between Aberdeen and Glasgow return with an adults disabled persons railcard, travelling July 22nd and returning either the 23rd or 24th? Thanks.

What have you found so far?

    How many people travelling?

It can be done for £7.20 each way using Advance Singles.

Remember that with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked trains.

50% off Super Off-Peak Singles from London to selected East Coast stations:

    http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/special-offers/standard-live-pages/flexible-off-peak-travel-for-less/

Could be useful when combining with an Advance fare (e.g. if an Advance is not available for one leg say ala Virgin "Saver Half").

As your coming back the same day split at Preston and get Off Peak Day returns.

Best value will be to purchase a Chester to London Super Off Peak Travelcard @£110 this will give unlimited travel on TfL for the day whilst at London. If you can book a few weeks in advance then it is possible to get the fare down to £67.50 using advance singles but without the unlimited Tfl travelcard and you must travel on booked trains. If you bought a Family and Friend Railcard @£28 then the £67.50 drops to £40.70 ,unfortunately there's no reducion in price for the Super Off peak Travelcard fare using a Family and Friends Railcard.

    Hi everyone,

I usually do ok when hunting down cheaper-than-average tickets but I'm struggling with this one. Planning to travel from London to Edinburgh on Friday (13 July), returning Sunday. I'm struggling to find any tickets much less than the standard off-peak fare.

Looking to leave London mid-morning and return from Edinburgh early-afternoon. Appreciate the east coast route is usually very busy and I'm booking at short notice, but I'm happy to consider other more unconventional routes too.

I know it's a long shot, but just wondered if anyone had any tips. Thanks!

    John.

Yes, you have left it rather late for real bargains.
Friday afternoon leaving London and Sunday afternoon returning to London are very popular times.

You have no doubt found the Super Off Peak Return at £121.40 per adult.

By looking (and booking) on East Coast Trains website, Advance Singles can be had for £57.50 out and £47.05 back.
However, not necessarily at the times you want...
    Out dep between 09:30 and 14:00, and return deps at 10:55, 18:00, 18:30, 19:00.

Is saving £17 each worth those changed times? You decide.

You haven't said how many people are travelling, but if three adults are travelling then you each get a third off Advance Singles when booking from that same East Coast trains website. So return for three could be £206.85... less than £70 each.
