    There is nothing to stop you buying a ticket for your two year old and hence using your F&F Railcard.

    Yes, it's absolutely true. ;)

    From the railcard website...
    My child is under five. Can I still use a Family & Friends Railcard? If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is less than five years old, as the Railcard holder you must buy a discounted ticket for the child so that any accompanying adult/s can get the discount on their ticket/s.
  • I (two adults) have to travel from Oxford to Weybridge (Surrey) on 7 July. This is the cheapest I've found:
    Oxford -> Reading Off-Peak Day Return £8.30
    Reading -> Weybridge Super Off-Peak Day Return £12.40

    BUT Weybridge -> Reading Super Off-Peak Day Return is £10.30

    As silly as this might sound, do I need to use the outward before the return? Or could I buy the W -> R return, using the return portion first to save the £2 per person?

    Also, just to confirm these are valid on any train, so it doens't matter if I miss the trains I've selected?

    Thanks!

    I am looking for cheap tickets from preston to Manchester Airport for the 21st August going out and coming back on the 07th September.

    which websites are the best to search from, I have tried the trainline and the price is coming in at £18.00 per person and was just wondering if we could get cheaper as a day return to manchester is normally £12.00 so its not as big a saving as i was hoping for

    You cannot use the return half of a ticket before the outward portion.

    Yes, those tickets are valid on all trains on that Saturday.
    But note that after 9pm buses replace trains between Weybridge and Virginia Water.

    All the websites will charge exactly the same price for this journey - though you can avoid thetrainline's fees by booking elsewhere - eg the transpennine express site

    As you say, not overly cheap. An off peak return is £19.80 (£23.50 anytime) so that's what you are comaring with, rather than a day return. And it is a slightly longer journey

    Thanks, Wealdroam. Also thanks for the tip about the buses... something to mention to the OH when he wants to stay for another drink :D

    We would need to arrive in London around 11.00am as appointment is at midday so need to allow some time to get across from station to hospital.......
