Thanks for that miller
Looking at what you've said we may just purchase an off peak return ticket. At least we will not be tied to train times then!0 -
I want to buy 2 return tickets from Sawbridgeworth to Honiton, departing on 3rd August and returning on 10th August. I have been waiting until single tickets for both journeys become available, expecting to get them at a reasonable price. I have invested in an e-voucher for redspottedhanky using Tesco Clubcard points. Imagine my dismay this morning, when I planned to buy my tickets, to discover that the price appears to have gone up.
Is this usual for August, do you think? The price out seems to be the same but it is the return journey that had gone up.0 -
I'm not sure I understand you. The tickets haven't been on sale at all until now so they can't have gone up
If you mean 'more expensive than on earlier Fridays', then yes that's possible. Higher demand = higher prices
It might be worth looking at Megatrain - I think they do Waterloo - Honiton. Their site is down today so I can't check0 -

Try splitting at Stoke on Trent and get a London Midland only train from there to London, a lot slower journey but cheaper, can be for £47, cheaper if you use advance tickets.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

You can save a bit (£15 ish) by being flexible with your timings and leaving your journey until later in the day on both days
You may be able to save quite a lot more by splitting tickets in Stoke on Trent and getting a London Midland slow train from Stoke to London. It will take a bit longer though0 -
I looked at Megatrain and they didn't have availability as far ahead as August so I decided to go ahead and book 2 off-peak returns. Using my e-voucher I got them cheaper than buying 2 singles.
I didn't know about Megatrain so if I need to find tickets again I will look at their site. Thank you for the information.0 -
hi all.
i have done a lot of searching / combinations already, but wonder if i am missing anything.
would like to travel this saturday (26th may) returning the next day, sunday 27th of may. i can be flexible with the times to some extent.
preferably going from either oakham or kettering to bristol, either station.
i can get a cheap ticket from oakham to birm, but then it gets tricky. also looked at different journey start and end points (before and after my preferred start/end stations).
i would like to get it the same as petrol (or less obv) if possible so that i don't have to drive.
thanks!0 -

What fares have you found?
I really don't want to waste time writing about fares if you have already found something cheaper.0
