I am looking up prices of train tickets to travel to London on 19th May from the Thornaby, I see that there are tickets from about £52 single on 5th May, but as soon as I go to 19th May the prices are going up to over £100, what is so special about that week? - I am quite flexible about the times, but would prefer to arrive in the afternoon

Nothing special mate. Cheaper tickets only available until 11 May! Check again later on put a request in on the Eastcoast site for an email when the ticket are released.

  • Thanks, I understand now, because the train ticketing sites such as train line, q jump etc were selling tickets up to 19th May, I asumed that all the tickets had come out - is it just me, or is this whole train ticketing system confusing?!

You have the choice between cheap confusing tickets and expensive simple ones.

Each train company decides when it is going to release cheap tickets (OK there are some guidelines but that's all they are). The ticketing sites don't decide - they sell what's there to sell

Is it confusing? It can be - but that's inevitable if you have a competitive market (even if it's 'regulated' competition) - there sre going to be different prices for the same thing or nearly the same thing, which some people can't cope with.

The routes on which there is most competition (say Gatwick London or Birmingham London) have the cheapest fares but the most confusing. There are more than 20 different single fares between London and Gatwick for example and well over 50 to Brum.
  • Well, I have now discovered that I will be able to save £23 by getting a train from Thornaby to London changing at Leeds, it adds an hour to the journey time, but still much shorter than going by coach!
  • Can anyone help me find cheaper train tickets for to Newcastle for either two option for the following:
    · Friday 9th March and returning backon the 10th or
    · The 10th and returning back on the same day
    Many Thanks

No, no-one can... unless you tell us where you are travelling from.

Can be done for £27.45 each way, Advance Singles out on 9th March, return on 10th March.
Must book on East Coast Trains website for that price.
