Anybody catch Nigel Slater just before - he is doing leftovers next week. I have really enjoyed the Nigel Slater programmes I have seen .0

I watched the 'Simple Suppers' first. Have to be honest that I'm not sure what I made of it, but I recorded it so will probably watch it again before the next one.
He had a couple of things I might be prepared to try, but my DS wouldn't so I'd have to try and downsize all the veg purchases and cooking instruction to single portion sizes - and I still find that difficult to do.
But I can say exactly the same thing about a lot of the recipes on last night's Economy GastronomyDS is one of those who "hasn't had a meal" if it doesn't include visible meat, and it's a fight to get 2 portions of veg a day down him never mind a totally vegetarian meal !!!!!

, I have in the past bought meat from Lidgate's (the "most expensive butcher in the world"!!) when I was shopping for special occasions, and I cannot fault them - they are very expensive but I have never had a bad piece of meat from them, and if I won the lottery this evening, I would transfer my weekly meat order to them without a second thought!
Nah - I have the most expensive butchers in my town - I only go when I want something special for Xmas or to treat the kids to their salad bar which is truly scrumtious. I go to one a few streets away usually as they are a proper old fashioned butchers - they seem to have everything!Noli nothis permittere te terere

He didn't give quantities or even many cooking instructions. The whole theme of the programme was to cook with what you have and to treat recipes as guides not commandments. For example I'm using his deconstructed trifle idea to make a deconstructed cheesecake at the weekend.

It was a Loch Fyne fishcounter, but the looks of it. If it's anything like the LF in our village, then it won't be the most economical of the gastronomical places to purchase fish!
I thought it looked like Loch Fyne-we ate at the Cambridge one once-but DH wouldn't believe me. He said that nobody in a programme with "economy" in the title would shop there!0 -
Didn't miss the point - I was just really hoping to come away from it with some new ideas at least for combinations of ingredients that are likely to work.Cheryl0

The quesadillas looked scrummy last night, going to make those next week with some avocado and tomato salsa that DH makes I think.
