brilliant thanks, I searched the BBC website but couldn't find, not sure what I was going wrong!
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
I loved this week's family and the students last week. Warmed more to them than the previous families (especially the waste disposal family - lol)
I thought Jordaan was fantastic - such an intelligent young man and I hope he gets to use the cash they save towards a good higher education! Maybe he'll be following in last week's footsteps and take Economy Gastronomy to Cambridge!!!Taking baby-steps :beer:0 -

Does anyone remember what beans they used as I missed that?Raspberry_Swirl wrote: »black eyed beans
I thought it was black beans not black eye beans?0 -
I liked the way Jordaan took charge of the budget and even volunteered to do the last shop so that they didn't go over.
Did you all notice that the salmon used for the extra guests was purchased by Jordaan on that last shop, so must have been on the menu plan/list.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

Every b*oody week:
"Oh, we've got unexpected guests - lucky we've got this splendid joint of beef/brace of seabass/piece of salmon/etc, etc....."
Between that, the patronising "food experts" and the badly-written narration, this series is on the verge of tipping me into apoplexy.
On the other hand, Allegra is clearly one saucy minx (and yes, I know which side her bread's buttered, as it were - I'm just saying....), and it's possibly worth watching EG just to see her do her thing.0 -
I thought it looked like Loch Fyne-we ate at the Cambridge one once-but DH wouldn't believe me. He said that nobody in a programme with "economy" in the title would shop there!
If I remember correctly they walked past the door plate which said Loch Fyne - mind you it IS the only fish shop in Cambridge so if they wanted fish they had to go there! (there is a fish stall on the market I think but I have never yet seen anyone buy anything from it )Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

New to this thread and I have just iplayered the Cambridge episode which was interesting as I live not far away from the students, but not in a £750k house like them! The fish shop was definitely Loch Fyne, OH proudly bought home some overpriced bits from there once and I used my calmest voice to tell him that at £8 for a few langoustine it should maybe the first and last time we use the place. As an aside if anyone knows a good fishmonger in Cambridge, please let me know.
I too loved Jordaan, what a credit to his mum. The quesadillas are on our weekend menu, perhaps with a bit of chicken in for carniverous OH and I am hoping Amazon turn up with the book tomorrow. I was slobbering at the squid and chorizo and given that I have a wedge of chorizo in the fridge I kind of have the perfect excuse to buy some squid, just not from Loch Fyne :d ). Another aside, but does everyone else remove the papery skin from chorizo?0 -
For anyone who has VIP status with The Book People, they now have the book listed for £7.99. Quite often what's in the VIP bit is on the main site within a couple of months, so if you can hang on (big if!) it might be worth it.
There's normally a code for free P+P knocking about on MSE somewhere and don't forget to go via Quidco or the like for cashback.
Now do you think all that money saving warrants me ordering it?0 -
