that is sheer nastiness. No need for it
Not at all! That's why I put the laughing smiley on. I'd have said exactly the same thing to my best friend.
The answers MrsE was giving made it obvious that she didn't want to compost but didn't actually want to say it outright. Therefore, I considered them excuses and laughingly (hence the laughing smiley) said so.
As MrsE has thanked your post, I take it she took offence and didn't take my post in the way it was meant to be, for that I apologise.0 -
Zippychick re your post 1572, yes you did misunderstand my attitude, I was just suggesting the people on the programme looked bored with the process and if it was a necessary experiment I think I would be glad of the help. I know most of us on here have to pennypinch and are very good at it but we mostly do get a kick out of it. Sorry not been around since you posted. Will remember to put a smiley when Im trying to be funny, so Im not giving the wrong impression hunny.
No problems at all! I thought i had misread you - hence my upfront apology. No problems no problemsI know what you mean though - there are a lot of people on here (and not on here) who might seem a little more excited about the help. I think this weeks family were the type who haven't ever had to worry about economising. I got the impression they sort of thought they knew better, and wanted it over and done with a little.! Sad really
Regards the working through lunchtime, a lot of offices won't also allow that for health and safety reasons. Don't quote me , but for four hours or more, I think you need a statutory 30 mins lunch break. Again, not definite numbers, but there are rules and regulations regarding it.
Definitely think the students will be interesting though. Will be interesting to see if they resort to constant pasta bakes/basic potato based meals. ALso curious to know what the students spend on food at the moment. I know a lot of students leave home simply unprepared for living out and fending for themselves. I do get a warm glow reading on here about parents teaching their kids dishes for when they move out. Lovely stuff.:AA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I'm loving that cake zippychick.. Could we maybe (anyone who is a good/decent thrifty cook) start up our very own MSE economy gastronomy thread. Something a bit different than our usual mince with oats and carrots/rubber chicken (and yes I do both!), but cheap, cost effective (not 5 hours in the oven type of thing) and tasty, but MSE style. ...
good idea!
I've been a Feminist since the 70's, and I always felt very strongly that I was fighting for women to have choices and that includes the choice of whether to work outside the home or be a full time home maker; and yes, I do appreciate that for some people its a choice they have to make driven by economics or circumstances - I know all about that as I brought up 2 kids on my own and worked full time all the while, but had there been any other way of getting us a decent standard of living I would have chosen to be a SAHM... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Regards Crankys suggestion - maybe Pink or PP could give us some guidance on this? I would be more than happy to start it, but would be nice to get input from them. A lot of threads get merged as they are already covered elsewhere or are similar to other threads. Dunno, just a thought......A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

According to my good old 'What's on TV' they spend '£250 a week on food most of which is bought from a convenience store. None of them can cook...' '...who live on tinned, microwaveable and packet food'.
So I take it they make try and recreate some of the packet food. They can happily do pasta for me, I love itGrocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

I had a kitchen scraps bin but had to get rid after finding 2 mice in it looking at me:eek:
We have fortnightly collections here and I seem to use my recycling bin more than my ordinary rubbish bin. It just goes to show how much packaging that is generated by companies - they should be made to find a biodegradable packaging that will break down quickly instead of everything in plastic or polystyrene.
Why can't we go back to glass bottles for milk, juices and the like and paper bags - but wait the pc brigade think that we are all dirty beggers.
One thing that gauls me on the subject of waste is that every week we have a lot of huge lorries transporting the waste from london to tips in our area so they still must be getting weekly pick ups - What a bloody cheek.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I don't know why it was deemed acceptable when I was talking about kitchen sink waste disposer units for a few people to start insisting I start composting & when I was polite (as I was) & gave my reasons I had :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: & "excuses" thrown at me.
I didn't ask for advice about composting (I'm terrified of vermin & scared of creepy crawlies) I don't understand why it was shoved down my throat. As I said I did try to remain polite, until my reasons were ridiculed as excuses, much of the berating came from board guides0 -
That is a brill idea - why have I never thought of that?! lol! Do you store the liquid in any way if you don't need to feed plants or do you use it all year round?
I only started doing it this year but I'll tell you now, it won't store. A few weeks ago, I had loads of it so I put it into 6 pint milk bottles and it started fermenting :rotfl: Another week and I think the bottles would have explodedBulletproof0 -
Well, they certainly sounded like excuses when you came up with a "reason" for not composting everytime somebody suggested a solution to your reasons.
As I stated above, my post was said in jest. If you choose not to accept my apology for not being clearer about it being in jest, then so be it.0
