Well ermmm lol different to what you would normally see in the garden, it was like a little environment all on it's own. We had a huge spider living in it, but I like spiders so that was ok, you could see all kinds of beetles and bugs running all over the top of the waste in it. My two sons thought it was like a mini-zoo! :eek:
I dont mind spiders either, sounds a lot easier to cope with. Please let me know Mrs E regarding distance.0 -
My sister is terrified of spiders, she flattens the poor things with a shoe if she sees them near her. The only bugs I really dislike are earwigs! *shudders* :eek:
To be honest my children liked looking into it so much I rarely had to go and put waste into it myself.
I agree though, if you dislike creepy crawlies you probably would not want to go near one.0 -

There is not specific distance the cone needs to be away from the house. However it would need to be close enough for you to take your food out to it throughout the week and all year round but not directly under window because if you get some fruit flied in the cone during the summer months you do not want these flying into your house.0 -

That's a good point, they do usually have a lot of fruit flies inside them, but they are very small. I don't like flies in the house. :eek:0 -

I wasn't being nasty, I did however take offence to your idea that people who worked full time couldn't be as OS as the others and pointed how it was possible to be OS with a much busier working life than yours.0 -

We compost everything - cooked stuff too - except meat.
I kept an old sugar jar when the lid broke (this sort of thing), it lives next to the sink. I empty it every day into an old bucket near the back door. I leave the bucket til it's full then I strain the contents through an old colander into another bucket. This is my compost soup :rotfl: I dilute it about 10-1 and voila! - tomato feedBulletproof0 -
This may be considered a silly question, but as we live in a flat I presume there isn't any sensible way of dealing with organic scraps without the need for chucking them in the bin. I already recycle what I can, but food waste is something I have yet to work out what to do.
