I agree, we are here to try to live better as well as save money although mostly they do go hand in hand. I am grateful to those that post to help others and see things from a different perspective. Not all ways will suit all of us and we all have different needs but I love this board even though I sometimes feel I don't do as much as some.0 -
I am OS on the inside but my commitment varies according to work and other things. We only have a small garden but have an allotment too. Kitchen waste goes in paper sacks in a caddy under the sink. We eat a lot of veg (six of us) so it needs emptying every couple of days. We have a wormery outside the back door so the bags usually get chucked in there. The bin at the end of the garden is used if convenient.
You have to do what you can - I would have thought you could have wrapped veg peelings etc in newspaper and stores them in a carrier bag, or maybe a lidded box by the back door Mon-Fri without a problem. What you can't do is have anything unwrapped waiting because the fruit flies move in. We compost fruit and veg waste, coffe grounds, tea leaves, egg shells, tumble dryer fluff, hair (human, cat and dog) from brushes and haircuts.0 -
I'm retired and I'm at home all day :j so I am time rich but there are many, many OS things which I choose not to do. I don't come to here to compete and there are no medals for being 101% OS. I'm saddened to see so many people being judgemental here.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Do, please, take a look at your own way of responding to people before casting insults.
Nice......
Actually I wasn't asking for help with my waste disposal, I was having a conversation in this thread with other posters about sink waste disposal units.
And was told I should be composting:rolleyes:
I've been berated because I'm not doing as I'm told:rolleyes:0 -
It's really worth the wee bit of effort composting veg peelings etc. Apart from the environmental/ waste issues, there's
a) not having to pay for compost if you are lucky enough to have a garden - our peelings have turned into over 12 kilos:eek: of courgettes this summer (plus various other veg)
b)I am now a '101 ways with a courgette' recipe expert;)0 -
We had a green cone when we lived in Scotland, we got it free from the local council, our dog and cats never went near it. You have to be careful not to put too much into it too fast and no big chunks of anything. There were lots of interesting creepy crawlies in it, but I never saw a mouse, rat or any other kind of undesirable creature near it.0

Well ermmm lol different to what you would normally see in the garden, it was like a little environment all on it's own. We had a huge spider living in it, but I like spiders so that was ok, you could see all kinds of beetles and bugs running all over the top of the waste in it. My two sons thought it was like a mini-zoo! :eek:0
