hold on Keefcat- i was on hold for 20 mins (actually 21 mins!) And finally got thorough- all weekends have gone for december- so i had to have a change of plan and am now going 23rd December- and now panicking at how busy London's going to be at that time in December!
Finally managed (yesterday) to get tickets for lunchtime on 23rd December - only 2 though so hubby will have to wait outside !! DS will love it 2 days before the big day, not too sure about me though, i'll be 8 months pregnant ! The hunt for cheap trian tickets starts here. :D

Try megabus for cheap transport from Birmingham as tickets start from £1 single journey.
    www.megabus.com

If you are pushed for time you could come down the day before and stay at somewhere like the premier inn as £49 for a family room for Kensington Olympia or Earls Court on 22/12 (click on picture of henry on homepage to get his rate,as £99 otherwise) . £12 return for 3 of you on megabus using the 5.30pm coach journey 22/12 and returning on the 6.30pm on 23/12
  • I just booked!!! I bookmarked the page the other day and now I can get in. Got my reservation and my print-at-home tickets.

    Go to: https://
    websales.omniticket
    .com/harrods

Do it quick - not much left!

Managed to get tickets for all the family but for 30th december.

Thank heavens my grand-kids are under school age and my own grown up. Maybe I'm a bit out of touch, but I cant believe all this unauthorised absence stuff, especially for primary school kids. I was as serious as the next person about my kids education, but, get a grip, a day off just before christmas, when the kids are all excited anyway, and probably rehersing for nativities and carol concerts (if they're still allowed them) is hardly going to stop them getting to Oxford, now, is it? I think a trip to the capital is educational in itself anyway, good grief, there'll be a tax on kids having FUN (sorry, naughty word) next.
  • I managed to book tickets for the 8th dec for us! only took about 4 hours!
Drew will be 3 in dec so it's the first year he's going to really "get it"
thanks for all your help everyone!!

Last year I accidentally booked on a school day as I forgot my DD would be doing full days by the time we actually went  and I had to go and have an interview with the headmaster about it!!! ( I think it's their new policy so it puts you off taking them out in the first place)

I honestly felt as though I was 5 years old and back at school, and stood there reeling off my spiel about needing to take her out of school, nervous as hell, while he just sat there nodding and said that it sounded like a lovely experience for my daughter. He was really nice about it. Don't know why I was so nervous!! :o:o

We spent hours driving around in circles as OH got lost (even that is where he comes from), had no lunch and were late for our slot, then had to race home to Oxfordshire as he had a job to go and do, so wasn't that much of a lovely experience for us all after all snapping and sniping at each other!! Although the Harrods bit was perfect :rotfl:

Following 6 hours trying to book tickets I sent 3 emails to Harrods on the day of the rubbish system. I was told by Harrods to phone as there were a few dates left at the beginning of November however these were weekdays. Anyway so I just forgot about it and booked tickets to a grotto elsewhere.

Today I have just received an email

    Dear *****,

Thank you for your booking for the Harrods Christmas Grotto 2009. This is the confirmation for your visit.

Please find attached your Grotto e-Tickets.

    etc....

When I opened the attached e-Ticket it is for 28th November at 12 which is what I had been trying to book all day. I didn't even tell Harrods what day I wanted!?!

Well, I successfully booked after much trouble for the 20th of November but today I receive another email confirming my booking for the 21st of November which is the original one I was trying to book. This means I now have two dates...

I wonder if there'll be more emails of the attempted dates coming my way.

The system was appalling and they really need to test it properly next time round.
