Thanks geri1965, that makes me feel better knowing that they would probably be willing to offer some kind of compensation.
CG19a - I did indeed take a copy of the accident form. I also took a copy of the paramedics form. I would love it if Tesco's said that they would give her compensation as it would save us all a lot of hassle0 -
Firstly it was a minor accident and cut not a triple decapatation. Your drama queen attitude wont get you anywere.
What exactly is it you hope to achieve? What have you actually lost from the accident.
It was an accident. Insist tesco note it and ensure it doesnt happen again and move on.

To be honest, I've got no idea what happens next as these things are never dealt with at store level. I know that they are dealt with in Dundee, and usually as long as there is no over dramatics then they are dealt with swiftly. Good luck and I hope your Nan gets better quickly.0

SueSueSue - I've had a bad enough day as it is. Please just do me a favour and don't post anymore comments. To suggest I am doing this for my own benefit is an insult beyond belief. If I weren't the person I am, I would be inclined to post an equally insulting comment back to you.
With regards to what she wants, she wants the easy life. If I told her tomorrow that I had spoke to the head office, she would thank me and that would be that. I just feel upset that I had to watch her go through all of that and know that she won't be able to go out for god knows how long, and just accept a meaningless sorry on her behalf.
They owe your Nan something for her pain, distress and disrupted day. It is scandalous that they allow equipment with defects to be used by their customers.
Give them serious grief please.

She does, but they really do weigh a ton and are quite big. We couldn't fit it in our car and we knew that Tesco provides them
I may have sounded dramatic, but it was an emotional experience. There was quite a lot of blood, my wife nearly fainted and my boy was crying. It might have just been a cut to some, but it felt like a big deal to us.0 -

you have a good load of advice in this thread, but i think if you keep it friendly and call them like suggested in another post you'll fair much better than going to court and it will better for your gran aswell without all the upset of going to courtEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Why don't you just wait to see how your nan heals first?
If you kick up too much of a fuss, what is likely to happen is that Tesco will withdraw the use of all wheelchairs, meaning that only those elderly that have their own chairs will be able to get round the store, so it's probably best not to make any hasty decisions.
You'd already known the chair was broken, so did you not investigate why? Surely it would have been easy to spot the broken bits, because she did have to sit holding her feet up!
OP - You (your Nan) should be entitled to be reimbersed for any costs incurred as a result of the accident and most likely a sum for pain/suffereing/stress caused by the incident.
It is often difficult to think about the best course of action to take when you are emotionally involved but IMO you should claim using a no win no fee solicitor.
Sure there will be those who moan about ambulance chasing etc but if there was not accident there would be no ambulance to chase. I'm sure you rather be in the position of having the nice uneventful afternoon out rather than considering what to do next.

It's horrible that certain people on here are being nasty and claiming you're an 'ambulance chaser'. To be fair there is a lot of posts that seem to be out for all they can get, and blowing up tiny incidents into 'how much money can I make out of this?' but you don't seem to be one of them. In this case it was a genuine incident which should never have happened, and Tesco was completely at fault. I would have been horrified if this had happened to my nanna, or anyone for that matter! It's nice that you're just looking for an apology, or a small token to acknowledge that Tesco were in the wrong, and I hope you get one. I also hope they learn from this and remove the broken wheelchair before anything like this can happen to other people.
