And frugallass, saying you're glad someone isn't your friend really isn't a particularly nice thing to say, even with a smiley. If you disagree with someone, there are better ways to put it. But I do agree that yes, it is just a party. Not pathetic mind, some people love these type of evenings, but it's just a minor thing that if someone is your friend, they shouldn't fall out with you over.

Hmm, I wasn't so sure that actually emotionally blackmailing someone with "as a friend you need to help out" was good either...

I have to say I don't see this as helping either. And I wouldn't like my friendship judged on how much money I spend on a "friend" or in her favour.

hi any .. the op posted to i presume gauge others opinions and views ..

i have said that i would go as a show of support to a friend, i would not feel blackmailed nor do i want the op to think that i think she should go if she does not want to

i hope that makes sense ... i really do fail to see why have annoyed frugallass so much buy having an opinion different to hers

I have told her I would rather not come and she was fine with it. Well, apart from handing me a brochure! lol.

    Thanks for all the comments.

I meant what I said - I'm glad I don't have friends like her who expect me to go to their parties because they did me a favour six months ago.

So tell me, how should I have put that I was glad she wasn't my friend?[/QUOTE]

Why bother to post that? I could see your point of view but then you sounded kind of nasty - no need to get so personal about it surely

OP - glad you've resolved the matter -bin the brochure and if she asks your little un has recently taken a worrying interest in fire so your banning all candles/fire starting devices from your house :D

nasty ? you're just as sensitive as the other one....I'll admit I've been a bit sarcastic and a bit opinionated but I have not been nasty

personal ? cos I told her to dry her eyes or because I said I was glad she wasn't my friend ? jeez.....:rolleyes2

In my opinion personal because you said you were glad she wasn't your friend - the dry your eye's princess comment was just sarcastic and I assume you were trying to be condesending unless of course thatgirlsam is in fact royalty! - prob not :p

Anyhow in the spirit of being nice to other moneysaver's etc... I am sure you are a lovely warm person really and your comments have been misinterpreted as nasty as opposed to opiniated and sarcastic as you say - apologies for that :)

And I apologise if I have offended or upset anyone - although I do think that people are quick to jump on the 'she's nasty / he's bullying' bandwagon just because they have differing opinions. Some people are too sensitive, but in the same tone I suppose some people are too opinionated.

I am a firm believer in saying what you think and feel, and have never lost a friend through being that way.

Yes I am sarcastic, I'm the first to admit it - it's the way I am, and I have no intentions of changing.

I'm now going to read threads and try to appreciate that other people's opinions are as important as mine

Lots of love to you all x
  • I hate these things and refuse to go... it's not really a party anyway is it? It is just a way of adding extra pressure to their sales tactics.

You have to sit there politely, whilst being lectured on the virtues of some stuff you dont want, in a friends home, usually by a strange and annoying woman, then, have to pass all this cack round and make admiring noises, then with the pressure of supporting your friend and the disadvantage of being a captive audience you always feel immense pressure to buy something so as not to offend the friend.

I really resent the whole idea, and so do not go, because if you do go, and dont buy, it is almost always uncomfortable. I have better things to do with my time and my money.

A party on the other hand, should be a good natured and informal gathering of people, aided by some nice snacks, refreshments etc.. to relax, have fun, chat and socialise...

Jet, well done on saying no!
