  • Have to agree with all the others i'm afraid, my brother in law is getting a washing machine with them, £5 a week for 3 years thats £780, who pays that for a washing machine??? you can buy a new one for £200 and in 3 years thats exactly what he'll have to do, he now wants my dh to take on a contract with PC world for a laptop with broadband for him ......... excuse my french but no bloomin way!!!
I'm the same as the rest of you, either buy cheaper, or save up till you can pay for it!!! BIL is being a real plank!

Dunno if there is a cash converters or similar near you, but they allow you to put down a 10% deposit on good then have 3 months to pay them off, if you realy want an all singing all dancing telly but cant afford it all in one go, maybe this is an option to look at rather than brighthouse.

I haven't got a telly, not had one for 15 years.

Lots of people watch TV/play games 5 hours per night/7 days per week = 35 hours
x 52 weeks divided by the number of hours in a week = nearly 11 weeks per year, 24 hours per day. If you're awake for 2/3 of the time that's over 16 weeks per year.
I've got much better things to do with 16 weeks a year even allowing for the odd hour on MSE. That means that so far I've got about 4.6 years extra time to do real things. Get a life, we'll all be dead soon enough.

God it really annoys me people who passionately hate the telly.

I have a busy life with work, hobbies, seeing friends and spending time with my other half yet I still watch about 15 hours of TV a week. Does that make me a saddo? I dont think so.

At the end of the evening after seeing friends or doing some exercise I stick the telly on for a couple of hours to watch big brother with my girlfriend or play my xbox. Its how I relax.

    Hi
Doesnt matter who I turn to I either get:

    Rejected.

Offered payday loan (30 days to pay)

    Provident (2000% apr!)

    Or theres brighthouse.

The thing is, Although the credit was a problem (from 10 years ago) my finances (income/outgoings) are more than ok right now,BUT my credit isnt:

    I have just moved house
    Im a tenant
I got ccj last year from an address I havent lived at for 3 years so didnt know about it to avoid it :(

I want a tv, can afford one, but brighthouse only offer £1000 sets (42 inch are on ebuyer for less than £500!) - so the apr is high (ok) but the product is double what I want to buy.

Is there anyone else? Tried the catalogues, rejeced... are brighthouse the only rent-to-buy or no-credit-check company?

Other option is to Save up (expected to hear this) but I really want it soon as I dont have anything, and need HD for the xbox. Ive got a flat to fill, so could do with paying out £20 a month opposed to £500 in the next 2 months.

    Suggested companies please

If you take a long hard look at your finances Im sure you'll be able to save on other areas to get the telly.

You can get my 32 inch HD LCD toshiba with built in free view for about £280 online. Its an older flat screen and not 1080p but for its price its a total steal. Call of Duty looks amazing on it too ;)

Dont go down the road of credit cards and payday loan because we both know what will end up happening.

Just take a look at your expenditure and make changes. Flog some old games and consoles on ebay for some cash.

My last telly was 28 inch flat screen which I got for £50 from the friday ad. After many months of saving I have just purchased a sony bravia with blu ray, I dont own anybody for this telly, I saved up. Which is pretty amazing really as I am on IS and have a repayment plan with cccs.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

To me its more sad to watch soaps yet they dont get as bad a press.

Big Brother is funny. Its better than most comedies infact because half the time the numpties on the show dont even realise what they are doing is so hilarious.
  • Don't go to Brigthouse. I tried to tell my sister how much it would cost Did she listen. No. So recently she has worked out that the 14" prtable tv with bulit in freeview and DVD player. Now not working. Will have cost her £750 by the time she is finshed paying. Now she is on JSR and still has to pay this £10 per week for years.
