Brighthouse - only option?
Hi
Doesnt matter who I turn to I either get:
Rejected.
Offered payday loan (30 days to pay)
Provident (2000% apr!)
Or theres brighthouse.
The thing is, Although the credit was a problem (from 10 years ago) my finances (income/outgoings) are more than ok right now,BUT my credit isnt:
I have just moved house
Im a tenant
I got ccj last year from an address I havent lived at for 3 years so didnt know about it to avoid it
I want a tv, can afford one, but brighthouse only offer £1000 sets (42 inch are on ebuyer for less than £500!) - so the apr is high (ok) but the product is double what I want to buy.
Is there anyone else? Tried the catalogues, rejeced... are brighthouse the only rent-to-buy or no-credit-check company?
Other option is to Save up (expected to hear this) but I really want it soon as I dont have anything, and need HD for the xbox. Ive got a flat to fill, so could do with paying out £20 a month opposed to £500 in the next 2 months.
Suggested companies please

I'd still say save up. You don't NEED HD for the xbox, I'd be happy to have an xbox on my small 15" TV in my room at the moment, I have a PS2 and would never be tempted to get myself into debt for a want rather than necessity. Learnt that the hard way!
If you do persist with it though, I think theres a company called Buy-As-You-View too who do stuff like that.0 -
Try freecycle for any old tv, and save up for the HD one.
When I first moved into a flat on my own I got a loan for furniture, it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and debt.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
You can contest the CCJ and get it set aside.
You will have to satisfy the judge that you WOULD have paid had you known about it but were simply unaware of it's existence.
I did this a few years ago, it was a solicitor I was fighting against but I won all the same.
I think it LUDICROUS you are considering loan sharks to buy a poxy telly though as if it is an essential purchase.
How are you going to repay the loan (assuming you are daft enough to get one)?
Why not use that money you would be expected to pay to save for a few months?
Crazy, why would you want to pay over double the value of the tv in repayments??
If I could put £1,000 in a bank for a year and take out £2,000 after a year I would jump at the chance, along with thousands of others.
You want to put £1,000 away but only get £500 back !! Weird!!!0 -
if you take out a mobile phone contract sometimes you get TV's with those. That's where my 32" came from.
I agree that dealing with a company such as bright house for a tv is not a good idea, ever. It is a non essential item and i am willing to bet you could get a fairly big TV from your local freeads for under £30. OK it won't be flat screen, but we all have to prioritise!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

I'm sure there is more to life than big tellys0

I would not touch these sharks for all eternity, ever wondered why theres no tellys under 800 in brighthouse, when the same tellys like 350 in argos
Do the math!
Someone found bargain telly on amazon for 250 earlier, hyperfi also has good deals. I would also agree, get a crt off ebaty or freecycle and stay away from the trap of payday loans
the only reason you are offered these terrible rates is because they see you as a terrible risk. thats not good. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
With Brighthouse does it actually end up on your credit report if you did take a TV with them and made payments or non-payment or whatever?!0

Yes of course, they are ahem regualated under the CCA:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I haven't got a telly, not had one for 15 years.
Lots of people watch TV/play games 5 hours per night/7 days per week = 35 hours
x 52 weeks divided by the number of hours in a week = nearly 11 weeks per year, 24 hours per day. If you're awake for 2/3 of the time that's over 16 weeks per year.
I've got much better things to do with 16 weeks a year even allowing for the odd hour on MSE. That means that so far I've got about 4.6 years extra time to do real things. Get a life, we'll all be dead soon enough.0
