My local Lidl opened just around the time I became a single parent, so was of much use to me. One day we came home with bags. My dd was 10 at the time and helping carry bags. A neighbour's child started to tease her about shopping in Lidl. For ages my poor dd felt embarrassed about going there - until she saw the teasing child with her dad in there with a trolley loaded with shopping.:D

I shop everywhere but never really end up with Lidl (*unless hubbie has been shopping)or Poundland carrier bags only because I take my own carrier bag. I like to do my bit for the envrronment so even if it's a case of shopping in M&S, Asda etc. I use my own.

*Whenever hubbie goes shopping in Lidl himself he always pays for a carrier! :-0

I thought it was the wealthy ones who rarely buy new clothes, and turn up in LIdl and aldi when theres a sale on, in their landrovers, covered in dog hair LOL. I know some really wealthy people in a big house in the country and they shop at lidl, probably why they have money.
Anyway in Sainsburys you could have all economy stuff or all 'taste the difference' (still waiting to taste it...;)) and the bag would be the same. Maybe a two or three teir carrier bag system should be brought in. Use your own if you are buying economy, get a normal bag for standard stuff, and a posher bag if you get the high-end stuff then those of you (shocked to hear it) who have a carrier bag/shop snobbery problem need worry no more!
When i was a teenager I would hide top shop bags (i was a goth) and later Mark one bags, but i never had a prob. with charity shops - mum did BIG time. Thought it was shameful
Poundland is good but I shop around like others, savers or wilkinsons is often cheaper :)

Wouldn't be bothered about poundland or Lidl carrier bags (Oh, if only we had either here!) but when I was at work I coudl never go back to the office after lunch with a chairty shop bag, I used to keep a spare Boots carrier in my handbag & use that!

I find it hilarious that people worry so much about what people think. That in itself should be more embarrasing than what carrier bag you have. I do most of my shopping in waitrose but buy lots of stuff at wilco's etc. I also have their bags for life, so often ill do my shopping in waitrose and stick it in a wilco bag lol!

I shop at Tesco, but my daughter turns her nose up at Tescos own branded products. She turns her nose up so much, she buys her own - which makes me feel as guilty as anything. So then i get my fridge full of her stuff and then my boys moan that she gets all the 'good stuff'. Bahhh, i cant win!!!!

LOL, I've never even thought about this, I've always got my shopping from wherever is cheapest. Can't see the point in spending more for the same product. I even have one of the proper Lidl shopping bags :) I also have a natural canvas one that says reduce, reuse, recycle :D

And now the chic shopper is in operation I don't have the problem with carrier bags anyway :)

My Mother was a bit snobby at one point in her life. I was ashamed of her.

She prided herself on being a good woman yet she let foolish, unimportant perceptions cloud her good common sense.

Thankfully, she woke up and really did become a good woman by losing her false priorities and focusing on what was really important in life. She also woke up to the fact that her friends who had the old 'standards' were in reality, very shallow people whose worlds were built around trivialities such as what name was printed on a carrier bag.

If you think about it though, putting your Lidl shopping in a Sainsbury's bag IS moneysaving because the Sainsbury's bag (if it's a standard type one) is free, whereas a Lidl bag costs 3p or 9p :D Nothing stopping you stocking up on reduced bargains one day in Sainsbury's, saving the bag, and re-using it next time you're at Lidl :D

Having said that, I'm not a snob at all. I'll take anybody's carrier bag anywhere, and I'm proud to know where I can get the most for my money.
