I can understand why schools take these seemingly mad decisions. I'm a Librarian and we have to be so careful when working with children. I'm a first aider and can't put a plaster on a hurt child even if the parent okays it (we have to use bandages to dress tiny cuts which is good actually because the kid is so chuffed with the bandage that the crying instantly stops!). We have also been told we can't have face painters at library events etc. Unfortunately I have met enough parents who blame the library staff for any accident their child is involved in even if it was the parent's fault!

Thank you (and Spendless) for sharing your experiences. I know this has become the case, but I detest it, I find it so upsetting. It's one thing I really hate about living in this country, the horrible litigious streak we're all encouraged to have. It's starting to make life so miserable here, I feel, as everyone bends over backwards to protect themselves from being sued.

Funny though, with HM cooking for school. Clearly a whole year group would be at risk of death from cakes cooked in kitchens only cleaned with bicarb and vinegar, but the school would welcome Mr Kiplings cakes loaded in transfats, and foods packed with sorbitol and various hormone disruptive chemicals. Our principles are completely out of whack now (this list excluded!)

I should probably stop ready this thread now, the stupidity of the government and non-OS people makes me fume...

The thing about passing on clothes, I have a friend who gives me stuff from her 8 yr old ds which goes to my 6yo. ds then my 4 yo, then his stuff goes to a friend who had a 2 yo. ds. It suits us all because we all look after the clothes, and we always ask before we give the stuff. What's the point in being too proud? Im so pleased that at the moment my friends little boy will be playing on a beach n spain in my youngest son's 'ex' shorts and t shirts. I think the names 'cast offs' and 'hand-me-downs' don't help at all.
Today I have my 50p FCUK jeans on and a cardi I got off the market (sweatshop overspill - we get a lot of that here!) for £1:)
