If you call landlines and virgin mobiles it much more expensive, but great if you call other networks as the price has been halved from 40ppm to 20ppm. Works out great for me as I only know 1 other person on virgin!

Why is it so great compared to using asda at 8p per minute?

Would asda also give me 250 minutes, unlimited texts & unlimited data for £11 a month? Me thinks not, that why it's so great for me compared to Asda's 8p per minute.
(If I was on PAYG I would actually switch to Asda because that's bloody good!)

Calls to other networks have not been halved.

if you call them as an existing customer they offer better deals, they have a £10 month deal 200 mins and 200 texts I was on this and went back to pay as you go and they had made the changes already to "new" customers it cost me a fortune and you also have to pay for voicemail. Called them back after 2 weeks and went back on this deal.

My wife had done a smilar thing and went back to pay as you go a few weeks before and kept the old rates, she had been using the 200 texts up and thought it was cheaper to get the 5 free ones, when she found it was costing more called back and they offered her unlimited calls and texts for £15, cant remember how unlimited the calls were but the texts were up to 3000.

I would give them a call and see what they offer you, the packages are not tied in and if you find they arent working for you then you can move to Asda that are supposed to be the cheapest.

Sorry, was going on what Barry Man said:
Standard call costs (to land lines and virgin mobiles) going up from 15p per min for first 5 mins per day with 5p per min thereafter TO 20p per min across the board

At the end of the day if Virgin customers don't like it... move elsewhere! Simple!

Can't decide whether to cancel or not, 2 months into 18 month contract on £8.50 per month (cheap cookie phone, would have gone for higher one if I had known). Won't get anything cheaper anywhere else.

Would they let me move onto PAYG? If so, could I think move it to the £10 per month liberty sim?

I would like to say thanks to the OP (and I have!). My son ran my phone bill up to £99 in 2 days when my bill is only £8.50 and there is apparently a credit limit of £75. Virgin say tough luck, they are not willing to reduce the bill even to £75 and they are willing to lose me as a mobile and broadband customer. Thanks to Piggybankfrank I can now cancel my contract instead of waiting another year which is excellent news. Before you all start carping about why should they reduce my bill, the reason is as stated there is supposed to be a £75 limit and they can see I have never even used my 100 minutes before.

my son gets 3oo minutes and 500 texts per month for £12.
I was concerned as the limit was £150.
they agreed to send me a text message if he spends more than £12. works fine.

£99 in two days, wow, i would have been pig sick.

Not that simple unfortunately, Virgin say that as historically I have not gone over my inclusive minutes,I cannot cancel the contract because of the price hike. I pointed out that I have 12 months to go, and I well might go over in that time, but they refused to cancel without hefty penalties.

I have taken it to the OFCOM ombudsman, we will see who is right
