Could you show me a better deal at O2 that beats Virgin £8-50 (£8-32 actually) 100 mins/100 text a month and I`ll switch too, because I can`t find any!

Still waiting to hear of a better deal than Virgin!

    I don't think you'll find one.

And they have stopped offering the £8.50 100/100 deal. It's now £10!

(Just to add if you are on the £8.50 deal then you can stay on it unless you decide to change it)

This is the exact point I`ve been making throughout this thread,if your on the £8-50 100 mins /100 text and never go over, you wont get any better.
So I can`t see any point ringing them up and threatening to cancel.
If they do tell you OK you can cancel, then you`ve just cut off your nose to
and you`ll end up forking out more.

i totally agree ,i am on virgin cable bundle thing and get 300min and 300txt for a £10 just less ,how can you beet that when i us less than my allowance each month and when every one is doing the lowest tariff for £15 and 2/3 less minutes and a 1/3 less of txt
so a price hike for going over is a small price to pay for when you do or if you do
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

If you are on the 300mins + 300texts for £10 a month then maybe there's no reason to change, but if you're on the 100mins 100text then I will lose out big time. I can pay £10 for o2 or voda 30 days plan to get 150mins + 300 texts and go for a contract deal when it suits me.

Our kids were on virgin- either p&g or bundles. Have switched all to 02 family now. Especially the little one who makes 3-4 short calls a week. O2 family at £7.50/month allows free calls between all 5 of us and I've reduced dh simplicity by £5/ month too as most of his calls are to the kids and me so nearly a "free" change over. Even if the big kids spend &10/2 months txting mates it'll be less than the virgin costs (300 free cross net txts for 1st month on top up)
  • Rather than getting bogged down in 'is there a better deal than £8.50 for 100 mins' debates, I think the point is how your own usage pattern is affected by Virgin's new counting method, not the tariff itself.

Virgin's changes to the way they count and charge minutes could make a massive difference to whether your current tariff works for you anymore.

For instance, alared's package of 100mins for £8.50 is good value, but if you make lots of brief calls, and Virgin deduct a full minute from your allowance for every call that lasts less than a minute, those 100 minutes might get used up a LOT quicker than you think.

Then you'd be buying minutes at their hugely increased price of 20p/min. I'd recommend a look at your last couple of bills with a calculator in hand.

I've swapped onto the O2 £19.58 a month for 800mins & 1600 texts (less than £12 a month for the first 12 months with the cashback highlighted at this site). The headline tariff isn't cheaper than my 300 minutes with Virgin, but I've calculated that my monthly bill will be cheaper than it would have been, because of the way Virgin have changed their billing.

I would like to say thanks to the OP (and I have!). My son ran my phone bill up to £99 in 2 days when my bill is only £8.50 and there is apparently a credit limit of £75. Virgin say tough luck, they are not willing to reduce the bill even to £75 and they are willing to lose me as a mobile and broadband customer. Thanks to Piggybankfrank I can now cancel my contract instead of waiting another year which is excellent news. Before you all start carping about why should they reduce my bill, the reason is as stated there is supposed to be a £75 limit and they can see I have never even used my 100 minutes before.

Just got a letter from Virgin Mobile today (I'm on their monthly direct debit PAYG scheme).

Standard call costs (to land lines and virgin mobiles) going up from 15p per min for first 5 mins per day with 5p per min thereafter TO 20p per min across the board.

Letter says "standard costs are now even simpler and better value than before".

Mr Virgin - since when is a price hike of between 33% and 150% better value?

Makes me wonder whether this needs to be brough to the attention of the relevant authorities.

It's even worse - that should have been "Mr Virgin - since when is a price hike of between 33% and 300% better value?"
