  • I can understand totally why she may want to quit but I am suggesting that she tries another day or two because she may find that another shift manager is better at organising/training and it might not be so bad. Not that it's great but it may be a small turn up for the books :)
  • my son works at McDonalds - he rang in sick on Tuesday - he'd been sick in the night - and says his boss didn't believe him! Is this typical?

I work with food and have a hygeine certificate - we are not allowed into work until 24 hours have passed after being sick!

Technically you aren't allowed to wear your uniform outside of work and have to change into it when you arrive. ;)

It's been 15 years since I donned a maroon apron (I too loved my time there!), but that rings a bell now! (however I'm sure I ignored that rule!)

in that case then wearing a smart suit to work every day before changin into uniform would really show a professionalism

I have friends that call in sick because they can't be bothered to go into work. It happens. Thats why the boss is skeptical! ;)

I always went into work (I worked at Dominos though), but wouldn't go anywhere near the food, so I would stay in the managers office answering phones, but thats only if I had sniffle or anything, anything more I would just go in, show myself looking shockingly ill, and get told to f off and go home :)

Because so many do sickies it reflects against genuine sickness issues.

Disgusted at some of the posts on this thread, I am thinking that the stores mentioned are franchised as the Company owned stores do not charge for the first supply of uniform, however if you lose your hat/apron they will charge for a replacement!
  • Steve -it's the Hanley (Stoke-on-Trent) city centre branch - yes it's franchised, and yes, we will be contacting Head Office, even though she resigned on Friday and came home sobbing her heart out.

It was only pocket money but it represented her independence. I can't believe the things that happened there. Washing pots/pans etc in laundry powder because they'd run out dish liquid, she came home one day with a chemical burn, no blue plasters worn on cuts (I am NEVER eating in that place again) and so may other problems in the branch.

Thank you everybody for your help and concern. I just hope that this branch ISN'T typical, I really do.

    xx

Definately not typical - McDonalds actually has controls for washing up - right down to how much of each particular substance to use for each of the three sinks. Good on her for reporting this shoddy store.

Report to environmental health at the local authority.

I am in a franchised store and it is nothing like the one your daughter worked at, my heart goes out for her. We alway have trainees on till with someone experienced backing them until they are competent at the job.
