Check her contract again - it should have some sort of schedule on it with the times she is available for work. Even it it's some tatty piece of paper with things scribbled on it (mine was!) it's still a binding contract.
McDonalds tends to be open every day except Christmas Day and they also don't pay a premium for working on bank holidays and the like.0 -
Good advice for any interview:
Always remember to SMILE when you first walk in and greet the interviewer.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
definitely wear a suit for the interview and if successful in getting the job then wearing a suit every day to work before changing into uniform. it shows professionalismMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0

My McDs experience was some years ago - I like the idea in principle. However trekking through a greasy kitchen to get to the staff room and nice suits don't go hand in hand! Definitly for interview, after that, rock up in your uniform!0 -

Technically you aren't allowed to wear your uniform outside of work and have to change into it when you arrive.

Hi hullight :-)
She's had no contract whatsoever. No piece of paper. no matter how manky - absolutely nothing at all - she's even been told that she can't have staff discount card.
She went to work tonight and texted me in her break (15 minute after she got there). They've put her on backing (?????) wth no training and everyone is screaming at her even though she hasn't been told what to do. She asked about the deduction from her pay and was told that yes it was for uniform and the have every right to do it, and she'll get it back 'when they sack her'. How encouraging. I know that it's an illegal deduction.
She says she's quitting tonight. The poor girl has had enough :-(0 -

Don't blame her, that particular restaurant sounds terrible and I'm sure she would take pleasure in informing the HQ in East Finchley.0 -
sahararose - Has she spoken to the Business Manager? or Frnchisee if the store is franchised? What store does she work at?0

i worked in mcds at the age of 16 or so...i loved it...it was hard work yes but i met some great people..plus once id had my son at 23 when he was 4 i needed ajob and because of my previous experience i got offered a job onm the spot!
i have worked in 4 stores...and in one of them i met a guy who would introduce me to my H2B...granted it took us a few years together but if it hadnt been for mcds i probably wouldnt have met him lol.
the best advice i was given at mcds was to be a yes person...if a mangager asked you to do something no matter how crappy just say yes...it keeps you in the good books and helps youget them payrises

Oh! That isn't good!
I worked at at Mcd's for almost 3 years on and off and although not brilliant it was never as bad as that
"Backing" is backing up tills-basically someone else takes the order and you get the food and put it on the tray/in the bag. Not quite as easy as it sounds. In my experience it has never been a job for a new start, it has always been someone more experienced doing it.
SHE should have been on the till and someone else should have been backing her
Poor love, she must have been so stressed!!! (I remeber my first few days very well) Sounds like very poor management to me. If it is just for pocket money, then I'd suggest she sticks it out another few days and if it doesn't improve, then get the hell out. Obviously if she has bills to pay, then it's a different story
Try another store, she may be pleasantly surprised, they aren't all bad, honestly
To add: I have never been charged for uniform, it has always been free and we had a meal provided also. This was only a couple of years ago so things can't have changed that much.0
