There is no shame in working for McDonalds. More shame being unemployed I would have thought.

Like I said before, was my first job and I loved it - it really taught me something about hard work because it was really hard work! The wages were good as well - I can still remember my first wage and what I bought with it - happy days :D

No shame in McDonalds work. No shame in being made unemployed at the moment either though.
  • my brother's first job was at McD;s and they treated him very well. He did NVQ's with them and they used to pay his taxi home if working a night shift!:money:
  • My daughter has started work at McDs - they 'lost' her bank/NI details, they keep sending her home early because they're quiet, on a 9 hour shift they make ker take her 1/2 hour 'lunch' break just an hour into the shift, and now she's been paid, they've deducted £15 for her uniform with another £15 still to go. At no point has she ever signed anything to agree to deductions. Has anyone else had poblems like this?

Her bank details should just be taken again, pay periods are fortnightly so shouldn't be too bad,.

If she is on a zero hours contract, which many McDonalds staff are, they can give her any number of hours.

The half hour lunch break, was that just a one off? Head office give guidelines for the length of breaks for different shifts. Minimum on a full shift is normally 45 minutes. This is more than the legal minimum though! Also it is pretty normal to be asked to go on your break quite early (or sometimes late!). Law states that it can't be at the start or end of a shift but other than that it's pretty vague.

And NO she can't be charged for her uniform! If anything she should look to see if she is on the correct tax code as she would be entitled to get tax back for cleaning her own uniform!

This sounds like a franchise store rather than a company one!

I'm in a franchise store and on a 9 hour shift is a 45 min break, you often get it an hour in. But we only get charged for uniform if it is a replacement (not dueto wear and tear) if it's quiet they often ask staff to go home, but I always refuse to hehe
  • Thanks for the replies.

She's given the bank/NI details again, which went through with the money deducted. However they say that becuse her details were lost originally she doesn't have a time sheet (or whatever they officially call it) so she never knows what times/days she's working.

When she was interviewed the manager agreed for her to do Tues/hurs evenings with one 6 hour shift at the weekend to make it up to 16 hours, which she was perfectly happy with. They are now insisting that she work EVERY Saturday (9 hours a shift) plus every other Sunday (9 hours each time). She is also being made to work all Xmas Eve, New Years Eve and Boxing Day.

It is a franchise store, yes. But surely as they are representing themselves to the public as a McDonalds, they should adhere to McDonalds rules/regulations??
