ok i get the message, every one else has kids who eat every thing you give them to eat. glad you are all agreed on that.

just to say my lo has NEVER eaten a full meal she is 16 months and very under weight but what does that matter eh???

Nicky i can sympathise with you, my eldest ds was a terrible eater. BUT he did eat ready brek and fruit. As he was such a terrible eater i never let him feed himself, i fed him. Have you tried that? Also now and again i would do a plate with cheese cubes, cucumber and meat either cooked chicken or cooked ham and sat on the floor in front of the telly on a towel and said picnic time. This used to work. I have been very fortunate with my 3 other children as they love food. I spent along time worrying about ds he is now 10 and eats fairly well now but he is a very plain eater. He also loves lemons:eek:.

16 months is a difficult age as they don't fully understand and saying here you help mummy isn't really going to get her excited and want to eat it.

    have a hug missus x

    thank you chunky79,

i don't mean to snap but after 16 months no one can tell me why my child won't eat, she has been seen my a pead and now we are under a dietican, all full of fab advice but no of it so far has worked. for breakfast the lo has cheddar cheese, i have tried every thing possible but she just won't eat.

its worse this week as dd1 is home and of course there's no reason why she should miss out on pudding.

i guess i'm coming across as i miserable old bag and i guess thats what i am! i try so hard but just fail hence why i'm here i can't even keep my home tidy.

    thanks again. x

    Gosh I WISH!!

I had 2 supposedly dangerously underweight.. they would live on fluff and fresh air I swear they did, from being about a year until they were maybe 2.5.. I made sure they had the same meals as we had and they sat there.. even if they threw everything on the floor.. they sat there with everyone else and eventually, or occasionally, they would stuff a small piece of something in their mouth.

I now have 3 that don't eat potato.. inc. chips, 5 that won't eat anything with gravy.. inc. soups and stews, 2 that don't eat pasta (inc 1 of the ones who won't eat potato.. what do you give them?)

I found popping a raisin or a grape or just something tiny in their mouth at opportune moments worked well, at least it ensured soemething went in.. my friends daughter refused to eat for a while too.. unless it was from someone elses plate!!! .. they don't need to eat a full meal but I do firmly believe it is better to give them smaller meal portions and little snacks than to just give them desserts, not I think for a moment you do!.. desserts of fruit or yoghurts don't count.. I mean desserts like ice cream and jelly and cake etc.. junk food desserts.

But rest assured you are absolutely not alone in having a child that doesn't eat huge amounts... do consider how tiny their stomachs are though.. about as big as their clenched fist!!

I hope she starts making more of an effort at mealtimes for you, we all undestand how worrying it can be... but they really won't starve themselves, as much as it appears that they will!!

    ((((hugs))))

My friend has a son who is a terrible eater, he will go one day and eat a portion of food, serve up the same meal again another time and he will state he doesnt like it. Compared to my DD who is a human eating machine his portions are tiny, he is probably under size but doubt under weight, however he is the most energetic lad Ive met, he doesnt stop running. We've tried all the tricks, praise, getting him involved with cooking, refusual, reserving the same meal and it wont make a difference as he just gags. He does seem to respond now to the rediculous overpraise, but I think the most of it is giving him what he wants (within reason) and adding something new on the side and then letting him pick on things like carrots if he suddenly wants food.

All kiddies are different, and Im sure your LO is wonderful she'll let you know when she's hungry and hopefully one day she will snap out of it.

I dont think people were saying their kids eat everything they have ever given them, very few kids do that. I know mine doesnt!
I think what was actually being said was that they didnt give kids any other option to eat pudding etc if they had not eaten their meal.
Apologies if you took it the wrong way, of course your DD1 shouldnt miss out on pudding if she has eaten her meal.
I'm sure you're not a miserable old bag, just a worried mum under stress.

Nik you are far from a failure, we are all on here for the same reason, Untidy houses or just a routine for it, friendship and support from the mudaneness of life! these ladies are fab i am sure no one meant to offend you, some are just better at the tough love game than others, it doen't mean they are right and you are wrong!

The son who did not eat also did not sleep. I cried most days for the first 2 years of his life. I was also in and out of hospital for the first year he was underweight blah blah balh. Now what did come out of all the tests he had including CF and other genetic disorders... was that he had tonsilitis! Not much difference eh! Once his tonsils were removed at 3 years old his appetite did get better but he still isn't brilliant. AND i also have an over eater so i now hacve another worry as he is getting a big lad!

So hunny don't feel like a failure your the same as anyone else a mum trying her best xx

    I am truly sorry nikflo.
I had no idea that your LOs had eating/dietary problems.

My reaction was to my own childhood when no main course eaten meant no pudding.
But that was in the middle ages when there was only one choice cooked anyway.

I normally avoid commenting on LOs as I don't have any and will now crawl back under my stone.

Im so moved and touched by what you have all done for me.

I honestly feel that I cant and shouldnt accept....everyone has their own problems and none of you can afford to be paying for me!

But im so grateful that you all want to help me and will gracefully accept your help. I honestly cant tell you how moved i am that a bunch of people Ive never met want to help me like this. Just you guys supporting me and being there for me to vent to was enough.

You are all such angels, im so grateful for everything you have all done for me that I cant put it into words xxx

So much love n hugs to you all xx

JO its a hard time for you, the day you told us your dilemma it brought back memories of when i was made redundant 6 years ago! I felt so gutted and had a wage so i could only imagine how you felt knowing you have bills to pay and no wages. I just hope it helps you out xx
