Stick to the stuff that you are going to use.

    In pots we do:

    Courgettes,
    Lettuce
    Beans
    Carrots
    Potatoes
Strawberries - and look great in baskets
    Tomatoes
    Chillies
    Peppers
Cucumbers - we did the F1 greenfingers, planted late and got a fair few off it.

    Regards

    Neil

Anyone else going to have a go at growing their own veg in pots in 2009?

I didn't grow much last year as the weather was dismal so I am def going to have another go at growing runner beans, lettuce and tomatoes in the next few months.

    ;)

Don't sow too early runners are tender mid april in a greenhouse is early enough, later if outside, same with Tomatoes you can start them in late Jan if you have somewhere warm or at the very least frost free, after that leave them til late april early May and still look out for frosts, chillies are easy to grow in pots and so too are sweet peppers.
You can't have everything....where would you put it?

I shall have to look up when to start sowing different types of seeds as I haven't a clue!

We have a 6' x 4' plastic greenhouse (one of those zip up thingies that you can walk into).

The only thing is the plastic has started to disintegrate and I can't get hold of a replacement cover. Can't afford to buy a new one of the same size as they are about £60 so I think I may have a go at using some greenhouse, polytunnel tape on it. The green mesh is ok, it is just the plastic that is shot at.

  • Have a look at places like B&Q wilko's for all weather clear repair tape possibly cheaper than the proper stuff

Thanks, I shall have a look in Wilkinsons next week.

They have some on the B&Q site but it says not suitable for temps above 70deg so if we have a hot summer I may be stuffed!

After last years weather I don't think that is too much wishful thinking.
