You're quite brave to even ask about this problem, in what seems to be such a child-worshipping nation as ours.
But I agree that it can be a problem, I have a similar one here made worse by the fact I do shift work which involves starts as early as 3 a.m, and getting to sleep at 7 or 8 p.m at the moment is hard even with double glazing (and earplugs mean I miss the alarm clock  )
What gets me isn't the playing, having fun etc., I'm glad they do. What so irritates me is the stupid high-pitched 'I'm being murdered' screaming, something which wasn't tolerated by my parents when I was young (for the simple reason 'the boy who cried wolf') but seems to be accepted now.
Just to rub it in even more, our neighbour's kids get in their cars while parked and sound the horns 'for fun'. Yeah, great.

I totally sympathise as I used to work shifts and would definately have problems doing so in this house.

What is it with the screaming?? Surely as a parent the first time you hear your kid scream like they do you come running and if they are messing around you make sure they never do it again. Are we not going to have a news story soon where a child is attacekd outside their home, screams like blue murder but the parent ignore them as its what the kids do 24/7?

By the way, I dont hate kids. The kids on their own are all lovely, polite and friendly but together they are a nightmare.

I think this is too much, they are just having fun as kids do.

To be honest they can do this without making so much noise.

Would be nice and I do try end up many a time just making more noise telling the kids to be quiet and yes they do get called in and grounded at times for this. Most annoying is my DD2 seems to go to a stupid high pitch voice when excited aaaargh.

There's a sparrow.. which, every bloody morning chirps from 5.30am on the corner of the roof... constantly. Do you think it'd be in my human rights to pellet the thing, then make a very small pie out of it? It drives me crackers!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

ASBO is a bit harsh - normally these are issued if the children are directly doing this to be anti-social. From the sounds of it it's children playing...I know I did in our cul-de-sac as a child. Infact there were about 12 of us from the road that used to use the two cul-de-sac ends (it split in two part way down) to play tag, football etc.

Anyway - you can contact your local Safer Community Team (or the equivilent in your force) at your local Police. Maybe a quiet word from a PCSO might mean they quieten down slightly...
  • Yeah, it's the same outside my house and now the little darlings are throwing gravel over my driveway and pulling leaves off my trees, thank goodness I am moving out........

I really can only sympathise. I find my home my sanctuary, I spend a lot of time here and if I had kids screaming outside the window I'd be driven crazy - however I don't think you should try for an asbo. If I were in your shoes here's what I would try

    1) Go outside and ask them politely, if sometimes they wouldn't mind playing in the playground when you get a "migraine" and there's a packet of sweets in it for them. That way at least you'll get some respite on the odd few days. I'd only do this if I was sure they wouldn't turn round and say "eff off" though!! And I wouldn't do it too often, just when they were driving me to despair - and at least you can blame your "migraine".

    2) Speak to local council and see if you can get a "no ball games" sign put up, that might encourage some of the children to find somewhere else to play - if you did this if you know your neighbours with children well I would explain the reasons why you did it, that their children are fine, but a group of 20 gets too much. If they understand that they could still let their little 'uns play.

    3) Move. I'm sorry but sometimes a family area springs up, more families will move in so their kids can have friends etc. Might be worth finding a quieter house.
    I love surprises!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm a mum and my own kids drive me mental so I've imposed a curfew on them!

DS1 isn't too bad as he's 14 now so tends to bog off to town with his mates - he's discovered free running so I'm waiting for him to get done for running over roof tops anyday now:rotfl::rotfl: As it is he only explores the back of the shopping centre and the back streets -He's not interested in vandalism, grafitti, shoplifting or drugs for which I am prepared to let him run free - He never trespasses - just likes to explore different ways of getting around and over things.

DS2, however, drives me nuts!!! He's made friends with the new neighbours who have been rehoused for being (ahem) challenging neighbours off a council estate - so they put them in a nice street so they learn how to act - AAARGH!!!!! Luckily I haven't had to put anything in my diary for a few weeks as the neighbours they sat outside drinking with had just been rehoused to another estate - it's all go around here:D Anyway - DS1 is 9 and has made friends with the 7yr girl and 11 yr old boy and they tend to race up and down on their scooters. He only does this when the rest of his mates from round the corner on the posh cul de sac are out or busy but the noise they make is shocking and I have to go out and chastise them severely;).

He has to come in at 7.30 regardless of whether it's holidays or not and I don't let him out until after 12 so people who have had late nights can lay in or have some peace and quiet.

The really annoying thing is the fact that the brats next door keep knocking on my door every 30 minutes asking when he can come out - they don't just knock and go away until he's out - every 20-30 mins- they're at my door banging and banging:mad: I told them to bog off the other day as I was so fed up with it!
