Maybe they could delete minor missed/late payments after 3 years, but serious defaults/written off debts stay on for 10+ years.

Everyone is upset at "the banks irresponsible lending" but one of the main ways to lend responsibly, is to lend to people that pay back their debts on time.
So...in your opinion any defaults etc should remain on file for 10+ years. You cannot be serious
Surely it would cut down on admin costs for the banks and CRA's if the creditors sent the 'boys' round to kidnap the 'bad debtors' immediate family giving them 14 days to pay up. If they don't EXECUTE them.
Maybe chop off a hand for a missed payment :rotfl:
You mention in another post being an ex bank employee and knowing instantly if someone was 'good' for 5k etc.
Anyone looking at my bank account, payment history for last 3 yrs etc would probably approve me for an awful lot more than 5k but guess what..I have defaults from approx 4-5 years ago.
People's circumstances can and do change, unemployment, illness, relationship breakdowns, accidents, not always possible to foresee problems.
Given that an average UK adult may work for 40 years, making them 'eligible' for credit do you think it is fair that should financial hardship occur they must be penalised for 25% of their working life?
You mentioned people paying consistently...I got my first credit card at 18 yrs of age, a £250 Barclaycard then worked my way through a vast number of different cards closing them periodically.
I am now 43 yrs of age so have been actively using credit for 25 years and in all of that time had NEVER missed a payment prior to those defaults so a good 20 yrs of excellent history, since those defaults I have never missed a payment so all in all a long record of payments blighted by mistakes which were at the time beyond my control. By the time I was able to rectify the position the defaults were already on my credit report.
I am not complacent and even though my job is very secure I don't borrow beyond my means and If I became unemployed tomorrow I am in a position to pay everything off even if I maxed out a few limits.
That said...even if I wasn't it may be prudent to max them out anyway and in the case of 6yrs reporting or 10 go out and rob a few old ladies on pension day to pay them all off.
That way..I do ONE year in jail, come out and start again...with no defaults or late payments to ruin my life for the next few years.
Off to sharpen my axe and polish my baseball bat now :rotfl:

    Brian

That was harsh mate - you forgot about the fact you're the majority shareholder in JD Williams so can just pawn a few staff out for repayments if cash gets tight (yno, like ho's)...... lol

Words well spoken - thank you Brian.

Somthing else of interest! Of the 19 people so far that has clicked 6yrs, at least each of them have hung out in sub prime or DFW boards - hmmmm that speaks volumes!

Maybe they should find themselves suddenly out of work and then rely on using a credit card to pay for little suzies new school shoes and food on the table - perish the thought of the alternative and let her starve and sod the pets, in fact I know i'll pay my bank back and just cook the ruddy pets eh? Sound like a plan....!

I mean if this was to happen of course when they got a default they would willingly say 'I am to blame so leave it for 6yrs if you want' - like !!!!kers will they as we both know.

I hate people that are contradictory - the 'one rule for you and one rule for me' brigade!

That's what all the 'holier than thou' brigade who NEVER miss a payment fail to realise. Circumstances do change without any warning
Nobody expects to struggle financially if in a reasonable job but hey ho sh*t happens.
Let's hope that the 6yrs plus brigade learn the hard way

Yes mate cos has to be a real name but will sort it later.......

I'm in a dispute over debt laws with a bank manager - how ironic that he is part of the cause and I am part of the effect!
