RBS Credit search done, didn't click on apply!

Last night I thought I will see if I could maybe get an RBS account, just a Key account, really prefer HSBC but anyway, filled out my details, my present and previous address.

Then came certain questions, occupation and one question I wasn't keen on ''Have you ever been bankrupt'' at this point I thought, oh won't go any further as it will be a waste of a credit check and when i click YES to that answer it will be an instant decline!!!

So didn't answer anymore questions and came out of the application, just had an elert from Equifax to say ''RBS'' have done 2 searches:eek: Can anyone explain what has happened? Do they actually do a search before you even complete the form?

Bit worrying, can't ring them as I suspect they will be closed.
Could I ask Equifax to delete the search?

HELP:eek:

    Hi Bosie

They have done AVS checks that's all - they will be unrecorded checks. They do this to check the address. If however you did not complete the application then simply write to Equifax explaining this and they will remove the searches but as they'll most liikely be address checks then they will have no effect whatsoever on anyone being able to see them....

They will not have done a credit search, it is illegal at that point - they can only do it at the point that they show you the padlock and 'How we use your information' which you must tick. This is found at the end usually.

    Chill babe - no worries....

If it has credit search then you must have clicked 'submit' at the end! Otherwise they will have broken the law - they will not get this wrong, me thinks you've actually applied you know

Just been looking at the RBS application page and I got to stage 3 only, as I didn't even input my sort code/account number of present bank account. Looking at the details on Equifax it says I have 4 credit searches, and RBS are in there!!!!!!!
I cancelled the application when it asked me if I had ever been bankrupt, oh deary me.........
Found an application phone number so will ring them tomorrow.

will let you know the outcome:o

I have a funny feeling when you put in your addresses and click next it does the searches because you agreed to the data protection statement before any of this took place, at the start of the application.

Will need to look at their application page and check.

Turns out I would need to start off an application to find out as the address is not requested on the first page, it does state though that if you are applying for a full current account you will be scored as you go along (with the app) and if you fail the score they will automatically revert to the key account. So it does look like everytime you hit next they are analysing the information and using it to make decision and it seems this involves credit checks.

I see what you mean, because there are 6 stages to the application, so they are initally scoring you for a full account, but any negatives they would drop it to a basic Key account. That's why I didn't answer the bankruptcy question, as I felt it then futile to carry on.

I guess they'll have the application stored even half filled in:o

With RBS/Natwest online applications you will have to be scored for a full current account then if you fail you will automatically continue for a basic account.

You will get scored in different stages throughout the application it will start once you click the box to accept the terms and conditons

If you abandon the application half way through and its been footprinted on your credit file give them a call and they will remove the data for you.

As NID said it will only be a AVS check they wont do a full search until the end of the application.

Thanks stclair. can I just ask if you click on Yes that you have been bankrupt (no longer) is that a definite get lost:o
Say someone went BK 25 years ago! What is the outcome? I'm not sure if you open accounts but if you do, have you known people to get a Key account if they tick YES that they have been bankrupt.

Having just gone through a "Key Account" application for Mr John John, there is a tick box in stage 1 of 4 that agrees you can be credit scored, long before the final part of the application.
