This first principle requires that data controllers process personal data fairly and lawfully. Processing covers obtaining, recording, retrieval, consultation, holding, disclosing and use of data. Data controllers must not process personal data unless at least one of the following conditions is met:

Brian, I was the same, didn't realise it would be sending it over to Equifax:eek: I presumed that was at the end of the application. Must stop having my blond moments and check things.

Me think this is a Natwest thing and really shouldn't be allowed....... a simple email to the ICO would sort this once-and-for-all...

you would have signed in agreement with the lender and then see in this, it'll have something like ' we can pass and share data between internal departments for marketing and fraud and debt collection'

Thats where they have the right mate. A s.10 to a DCA usually falls on deaf ears.

In this particual case, say RBS - see here: https://www.rbs.co.uk/apps/secure/applicationforms_dda/webpages/rbs/RBS_Info_personal_data.htm

I'm sure a lot of folk applying don't realise as soon as you enter your address (s) it's doing a check then. Re-checked my Equifax and definitely a credit check, it's next to my new account Shop Direct Group! Then there are 2 additional address checks.

It looks like natwest/rbs have changed there website since the other day.

As the application page is now different and now comes with the padlock as mentioned above by NID.

I wonder if the ICO has given them a booty call lol

Im not sure to be honest.

I know they are not very bankcrupt friendly even though theyve been getting goverment handouts left right and centre.

I wouldnt recommend applying for an account online/telephone if you have a poor credit file your better doing it in branch.

As if you do get declined in branch the branch manager has the authority to override the decison. Were as if you do it online/telephone once your declined your declined in most cases.

Not quite. The member of staff, who is extremely unlikely to be the branch manager, has the option to refer on applications that decline to another department. There is no way whatsoever that anything can be done to 'override' the decision.

In the cases of someone answering 'yes' to the bankruptcy question it will automatically decline, however, if the person is discharged from bankruptcy then they should be able to have a Key Account. Occasionally though if someone's post discharge credit file is starting to look a bit messy they may be declined a Key Account too.
