Dealing with Annoying telesales calls
Comments
-
Re the morals etc of telesales - I have done this job for a major high street bank and a printing company. My "smell the coffee" moment came when I was reading the Douglas Coupland book "Microserfs". When considering the tenous nature of working existence, the narrator reflects, "remember - you are only ever a split second away from that job in tele-marketing". That did it for me - thus indicted, I left to be a self employed courier. God, how I don't miss having to make those calls.0

I used to hand the phone to my daughter when she was little and she would prattle off for ages telling them all about what she had done at playschool that day...Hats off to the bloke one night who stayed on the line and spoke back to her and even said she could send him one of her paintings lolwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

When they phone and say "how are you today" I like to tell them about how my piles are playing up something rotten then ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where it is located, how long it has been in business, how many people work there, how they got into this line of work, are they married?, kids?, etc. Continue asking them personal questions or questions about their company for as long as necessary.Or you can say you are busy at the moment and ask him/her if he/she will give you his/her HOME phone number so you can call him/her back. When they explains that telemarketers cannot give out their HOME numbers you say "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?"bye hoo0

yes i know these calls can be a pain, and yes i am registered with the tps.
however i do marketing calls for a big comapny and its really awful to have abusive launguge and aggressive behaviour thrown at you.
a 'not interested and a phone slammed down' is preferable any day of the week
remember that they are human on the other end of the phone and are just doing a job so they too can pay their bills etc too!
sorry if some of you appear to feel its a low job but for many people it get things paid at the end of the month, is a bit of extra income, helps through college, etc. there are all ages who do this type of work and it could easily be someone like your daugter/son,mum/dad even gran/grandad on the end of your abuse and meaness.
yes if its some cocky twit who wont give up have a go, but if its just a polite person trying to do their job please please think twice about what you might say or just put the phone down.
as for someone saying a freind asks about the callers underwear, i would find that very scary rather than amusing!
not all credit controllers are going to be heavy, again they are doing their job and talking reasonably to them may well be the way to get payments lowered etc, stop accounts being passed to debt collectors.
if you get really annoyed ask to speak to a supervisor/manager at the end of the day they are in more of a position to act on your annoyance that the rep you may be itching to shouting at!:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

i use a similar tactic to dazi, when i answer the phone i listen to their opening spiel then say hang on i'l get my dad (i am 64) lay the phone down and chuckle to myself hearing them shouting hello!hello!hello! they hang up after 5mins. after spending "their" money talking to nobody they then cross me off their list. if everybody did this it would put an end to cold calling...0

My husband always answers the phone Battersea Dogs Home or Golden Dragon Chinese (with an accent), he then just keeps asking them if they are enquiring about an adoption or if they want to place an order for a take away. It's amazing how many actually say sorry and hang up.0
