Dealing with Annoying telesales calls

Just had "T-Mobile" on the phone wanting to sign me up to a contract , with which the guy first claimed was free mobile phone, toyed with the guy saying i look forward to my free phone as i will put it on ebay.

I did say however i wasnt signing up for any contracts (on several occasions) and that it was a nice gesture on "T-Mobiles" part to just give me a phone

(CUE desperation and bewilderment on the guys part)

After wasting this guys time for about 10 minutes i went on the offensive with such tricky questions like "how did you get my details" and "where are you really calling from", "are you are marketing company" and the poor guy was clearly out of his depth

Eventually i got passed onto his supervisor (as this guy prob already wants to go home after starting at 9!) and went through the same process with him

(allegedly) Turns out some person ive never heard of has passed on my details, alas "T-Mobile" were kind enough to pass on his details to me!

Which I find quite disturbing on a number of levels.

Either way they didnt get there sale, 2 employees wasted there time (the call lasted 20 minutes) and i was nearly in hysterics, i kept a straight face.

The moral of the story is:

Dont try and flog me **** over the phone!
(or try and get your own back when they call, waste there time as well)

When a phone company rings my partner and is offered a free phone. The telesales person (Michael Smith from Bombay!!!) states he can have a free phone. My partner replies "well send me the free phone that would be nice" - this leaves the telesales person in a flumux ( it's not on the script!). He keeps then on the phone for a good 15 minutes......lol.

Another thing he does is if any of my creditors phone he speaks to them in french and they haven't got a clue......it's soooooo funny.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

I get a lot of these calls at work - although it is a bit more annoying if NTL try to sell me broadband (dont have a PC) at 9:30pm on a Friday evening - grrrrr!!!

With most calls I just tell them that I am not interested & they soon go away. It might be blunt, but they're just wasting my time at the end of the day.

Couldnt imagine having to do a job like that - would be awful!!

These callers are a pain aren't they. i registered with the TPs a couple of years ago but still get the occasional one slip through the net. I normally give them a really hard time (yet feel sorry for the poor kid ringing) and tell them to check the TPS register before making their calls.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
  • I used to get lots of unsolicited sales calls and it drove me mad - when we moved into this house the phone had been disconnected for some time and BT had to assign us a completely new number - we had a call from a double glazing co within 24 hours - I couldn't believe it! I've since registered with the TPS (telephone preference service) and get next to no phonecalls of this kind now - the occasional international one sneaks through.

I used to be a cold caller for BT ( well warm caller as they called it) and I do recommend you are not too mean to the caller, not thier fault, they have to make the money as well!! Although the indian ones do pi55 me off as it takes them SO LONG tro register, NOT INTERESTED!!

TPS is definetely a good idea. Other thing I used to do, was just say to them, can you hang on for 1 sec while I turn the cooker off, then just leave them there for as long as you like. You know, go make tea, watch some TV, come back in half an hour and see if they are still there.

I agree. Not their fault. But neither do I want to entertain such calls on my time!! I just couldnt do it as a job, or would want to!!

A friend of mine always asks them what they are wearing and keeps changing the subject back to underwear!

We've got a BT line, and I signed up to BT privacy which included registering with the TPS. I also followed the instructions there to sign up with a company to block silent calls (ie the automatically dialled ones) for a year. We haven't had anything since then (fingers crossed).
