Dealing with Annoying telesales calls
Comments

I received a link from a friend yesterday with one of the funniest telesales phone calls I have ever heard - there is also text because the radio crew who played this are laughing so much that you can miss the odd word. Highly recommended for a great laugh

Best one I heard was:
"I'll just put you through to Tone."
"Brr...." as you hang up."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0 -
I had one of the callers from India trying to give me some mobile deal. I was very polite with him and explained that as I only use about £5 credit on my PAYG phone I wouldnt be interested but still he carried on with his speel. I tried another tactic and explained that in the UK we have a brill site on the internet called MoneySavingExpert and that if I want any money advise on anything under the sun....thats where I go. In the end he said I was "very intelligent lady and what exactly is the full web address for moneysavingexpert as he might give it a go hisself!!:rotfl:Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600

They even sent some poor sod to survey the stairs we didnt have.

Oh dear, you are not good for my health! I'm off work with a chest infection and you nearly just finished me off! Haven't laughed so much in ages. Priceless!
I work in sales myself (inbound or by enquiry, not unsolicted) and while I appreciate that people have to earn a living, if they wish to start a career which involves calling people in their homes during their free time, they should at least have the decency to open the call with 'is it convenient to speak to you'.
I would never be rude to someone who approached the call the right way but, having had one company call me about 5 times after telling them I am not interested at the moment, I did tell them in the end I wouldn't deal with them on principle when i am interested.
I have heard lots of tips over the years, either to have fun with the caller or to put them off calling again but here are just a few...
... the caller asks for Mr Bloggs... you say 'Oh you mean my Dad/Mum etc, I'll just go and get them'... put the handset down, go off and make a cup of tea, have a bath whatever. Doesn't take too long before they hang up.
...various answers along the line of the bungalow/stairs one - if it's windows, you live in a caravan. If it's a kitchen, you live on a canal boat. If it's a free holiday, start asking them questions about somewhere you want to go. eg which hotel will I be staying in, can I bring my dog, is it full board/all inclusive etc. really throws the caller.
...my personal favourite is when a bank calls you and asks to verify your details, if you give wrong details or refuse to verify, they can't continue the call. If they are calling me, they should know who I am. Small victory I know but fun.

LOL LOL:rotfl: Funnily enough my Jehovah's Witness relative genuinely tries this approach with cold callers. He says getting a phone slammed down on him beats getting a door slammed on his foot(not that JWs actually put their foot in the door....)

My favourite thing to say when we get cold calls at home is ..."I'm so sorry, I'm having sex right now, but if you'd like to call back in half....hello? hello?" That usually does the trick!
I had a cold call at work recently - someone trying to sell us ad space on the local radio - we didn't take the ad space but I ended up making an appointment for our sales rep to go out and see him with a view to fitting him a new gas fire!0 -
Hiya
I know these calls are annoying, I get lots but I dont see the need to be rude to the caller. Register for TPs, and for any that do get through Just a polite but firm I am not instetested thanks and quietly hang up.
Its not the person on the end of the lines fault, they are just making a living so no need to be rude to them reallyBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0
